Ok, penny just dropped. On the two graphs that are legible that data (the box in the corner) is from 26 June both times. Do you have the  corresponding data for the 3 July run?

Would also be good to see the measured WHP graphs as opposed to the calculated flywheel HP.

Look at the graph plotted in green.

Nahh sorry. Just those. What are you looking to compare?

Probably the weather stuff - temp, pressure etc.  If those don't match the actual weather on the day, then you have unreliable results.  Its well known  for dyno operators to fiddle this to get the result desired.  They make the result good, you feel good and you give them good PR.  Just like they love to say that their dyno has a reputation of reading low.

Regardless, good result. :)

Weather wetter on the second series of runs. Tyres the same pressure etc.

Have spoken to FVD and they asked if the car had been put into Dyno mode on Piwis before the runs. Bugga. Don't think so. Will this make any difference if both runs are at the same settings?

The map chap sent this "With Piwis2 or Piwis3 you can set PSM in dyno mode but during measuring Accelerating sensor blocked torque and only on this way you can set TC and PSM off."  No idea what that means really.

I think we just did the runs on standard settings and then on Sport Plus mode which just made better noises and sharpened response a bit.

As I understand it PSM (Porsche Stability Management?) & TC (Traction Control) monitors wheel speed differentials across all four wheels. If it detects too big a differential then one of the things it will do is wind back engine torque through the ECU.

PIWIS 2 & 3 can implement a “Dyno Mode” for - well - dyno runs which essentially fully switch off the chassis safety systems and allow the engine to be run exactly as instructed by the throttle pedal.

This is more of a problem on PDK cars as the gearbox also has a Dyno Mode which I think essentially shuts the engine down if the rear wheels are turning and the fronts aren’t.

It’s a bit of a faff with PIWIS as it is configured to minimise the accidental removal of the electronic safety net but it can be done.

Thank you. That explains it perfectly. So the runs we did without dyno mode are likely under reading as the car would detect static front wheels and thinks you're in a huge wheelspin? In Dyno mode, it'll let rip? Even better if so. I'll bug the dyno guy. He's going to love me!

I was curious to see the barometric pressure and temperature noted for 3 July as well as the measured wheel HP to understand what factor they're using to convert WHP to flywheel HP.

Pretty sure the dyno mode is only on the 981/991 PDK cars and if it's not engaged when a PDK car is on a dyno power runs are unachievable.

I thought that Felix. Had read they needed a 4wd dyno (which this was by the way) with the front wheels set to turn at the same pace as the rear for pdk cars to run on a dyno. But FVD say no. It’s common to manual cars also. Has a dyno mode on the ecu that does “things” and won’t limit torque. Fingers crossed it is the case actually as there might be more to be had from the rollers in that case.
It certainly feels fantastic. I’ve done circa 400 miles this weekend and it’s transformed the car. Sports plus mode is electrifying. The rush from 4K rpm to 7 is just gorgeous!
I certainly need new tyres now! 🙈

I thought that too but now know of at least one 987 with PDK that couldn't be run up on the dyno.  It is a very late lifecycle 987 so maybe it shares something with the 981...

Will go digging and will update the thread if I've misunderstood.

Tyres now. FFS. Wanted Michelin PS4S pretty badly. Looked around. Big bucks. Costco don't do the sizes I need at the min. Ended up stumping up £800 for a set with ATS. Fitted and comes with an Amazon pad or home thingy to claim after fitting. Booked in for Thursday morning. Great I thought. Get a call back from ATS. No Michies available until late August. Can have Goodyear Eagles but they're £920 and no gift. Refund requested. Have ended up with the Goodyears but from TyreLeader and at £615 delivered! £300 difference. OK, I need to get them fitted for £40 but what a saving. Hope they'll be fine. Any experience of the F1 Asymmetric?

My poor wording - I meant that only the PDK versions of the 981/991 had/needed a dyno mode; I didn't mean to imply anything about other generations.

Bit late to be asking for advice on the GYs now?! What are you like?

I had them on the BGTS and couldn't get rid of them fast enough. Noisy, poor grip, prone to flat spotting, dry rot cracks only 2 years in. A complete disgrace of a tyre.

Back to reality .... they're perfectly fine. Rears finally toast on my car. Strangely quiet at the limit. Seem to be rare as factory fit on the 981s according to CG but they rate them highly.

Not really by design Felix as you can see above. Rock, hard place. Glad to hear they're OK. You mentioned that you liked them before so I was fairly confident. Wondered if others had used a set. They'll be fine. Way I drive, 5000 miles will be good so guess the £150 saving will help. Daisy needs new rears already. Think I'm propping up the tyre industry in Wales!

Loving this post and beats my mk5 gti as a daily :)  I have  F1 Asymmetric on my 968 and think they are great, they grip and wear well and I only got them after finding loads of happy users online.

Great stuff Aldo. Glad you like them. I asked on Boxa.net a while back and a few guys said they were getting 15k and more miles from F1's. Well rated.

968. Proper cool. Any pics?

Boxster is just an awesome daily if you don't need the extra seats of a saloon/hatch. 981 looks cool as f to me in any case. Proper glam. Think a private plate transforms these cars.  Mine now sounds epic. Like a proper sports car. Burbles and occasionally pops on the overrun lol. Wife not impressed. Few quid spent but by gosh it's transformed the car.

So nice I do like them Boxsters. It is always a difficult choice to get the mix right with a daily between having something you enjoy but not so special that you feel bad running the miles up on it. The 968 is great it was my daily for a while and so practical with that giant load area at the back. I have top admit I love my gti as a daily they really are fun. BTW: I have no images of the 968 hosted anywhere as been away for the forum for years :( I will post some when I get around to finding a hosting place :)
