S’funny...

Recommended Posts

...how things move so quickly, especially after 14 years  (IB membership #46, IIRC!) - deposit taken yesterday.

I only made my mind up at BicesterH last weekend when I saw a few too many cars that i wanted to own.

The car goes to an enthusiast who I’m sure will reveal themself at the appropriate time - it’ll be in good hands and they’ll have a knowledgable indie to help when needed.

It’s been a pleasure chaps.

Shirish

Well done Shirish  with the sale, your exploits will be missed on here as you’ll be

You and your brothers cars were my inspiration in that  magazine article, when looking to buying mine

All the very best and let us all know about your next purchase, as I’m sure some of us will have driven or owned one

‘‘twas quick.  Seemed a keen price for such a nice car.  Hope you find a worthy replacement.

Congratulations on the quick sale SP.

What's on the shopping list as a replacement?

Congrats both. Nice it’s stayed in the IB club and is going to get used. 👍

As Alex says SP, what’s next?

Well done Shrish, I thought the price was spot on, didn't think it would stay for sale long

Still my favourite car on here, hope the new owner sticks around so the story can continue

As asked already what's next 🤔 post up your shopping list so we can help you spend your money 😎

Cheers chaps :)

Future plans depend on space - I’m not willing to pay for storage so until the right rental property comes up, I’ll be happy barging.

Current thinking is an Alfa 4C but I’ve not driven or sat in one yet. Maybe next weekend.

Well, that escalated quickly!  Good news on the quick sale.  Such a great car, I am sure you'll miss it but there comes a time, etc etc....

Plenty of stuff to choose from with a bit of cash in your pocket.  As WC says, you know you'll always of plenty on here to give you lots of advice about what to buy, whether you want the advice or not.  Soooo, to get the ball rolling, why not just rent a place with space for 8 cars?  Then you don't have to part with all the lovelies, just add to them.  It really is quite simple if you ignore some of the realities.

Indeed it has buddy, look forward to seeing what you buy next. Howsabout rattling thorough a few less expensive classics for a while so you can keep them on your drive and get them used? the 5-15k bracket has a decent selection of stuff to try: https://www.ebay.co.uk/b/Classic-Cars/29751/bn_1839833

Out of all the keys in the car-key tub in our house 9 times out of 10 I grab the mk2 golf keys when I need to head out somewhere, is it fast? no. Is it comfy? no. Is it easy to drive? no. Does the stereo work? no. Do the windows always steam up? yes. Is the steering heavy? yes. Does it use a bit of oil? sure does. Is it economical? not really. Can I drive it flat out everywhere and have a load of fun in it - HELL YEAH!

Well done Shirish as said still keen to hear about your future exploits and see you around.

As Jevvy says despite all the far from ideal points can't beat a MK2 Golf GTI 8V had 3 in the past not the quickest but good value.

I recall a previous mention of an E30 M3 🤔. Sure be my choice, but like the 911, can’t leave them on your driveway anymore.

Appreciate the kind words and sentiments chaps :) I will hang around for sure, although I'm thinking the Mrs and daughter may appreciate some reduced IB-Internet-time!

The Jag needs to stay for another year or so (recent expenditure, ROI etc), so don’t really need something with 4 seats.  I could take a hit on the Jag but it’s £570 tax bracket means it could be around for a while.

I am in favour of less power though, so GTI/e30 etc do appeal, as does a 190e cosworth manual, but I’m asking myself if I really want another classic.

Thanks Haith - I’ll try one soon and report back. They appear to need about £1k spent on them to eradicate the flaws picked up at launch time (suspension alignment & spacers, plus a quieter exhaust).

Have to say I’m somewhat relieved you’ve sold it, knowing the way you looked after it and developed it I was looking at myself and my wife’s ISAs luckily or unfortunately I won’t have to have that conversation, make sure you stay around as you are a IB walking dictionary

Ahh Tim, would have loved you to have it.  I’m clearing out my lockup soon, you would have had a ready made home for it! I’m sure L would have been delighted :) I just hope they rethink the ULEZ extension to North Circular in 2022 or whenever it is.

You’re gonna miss that car and it’s foibles, development etc Shirish. And I’m gonna miss shooting the breeze about it. No spring drive! ☹️

Just been reading about a 4wd 260hp, 1260kg Toyota Yaris GR. 3 cylinder turbo, carbon roof, ally bonnet, ally doors etc. Sounds fun.

As has already been said, stick around Shirish.  A car is just a piece of metal after all, the memories are of the person.

If you after some cheap car fun, what about a mid engined 2 seater thats London ULEV zone compliant... for £1500?

Bought mine for a bit of fun while i was sorting the 911 and ive now been using it every day for 1 year, it lives outside, doesnt matter if it gets bumped, ive done 2 trackdays and it hasnt missed a beat!

Haith would have been a great custodian for it.  Timing* just wasn’t right when he was looking

* i.e. he would have given it a silly name, so i came up with a fib about not being sure about selling...😇

😂

Yes, please stick around Shrish, there is even a section for splitter's like you 😎

Spent today spring cleaning and Mrs WC found my stash of 964 Pornsche under our bed I'd bought over the years, now I can't bring myself to sell as I've got some top stuff to fit to it

An Alfa 4C sounds a good choice or what about an Alpine A110 😍
