Nice one SP - for some reason I thought you were still in Catford :signs118:

No sir, as of late 2017, surrounded by the greens of Horsell Common, in that there Woking.

I wonder how long the AM would have lasted in Catford  - anyway its dead posh now, its got a Costa coffee...

Very nice Shrish,,

Will the AM forum be as much fun as the IB one,  I suspect not.😊

Thanks Stevo - I’m just sticking to facebook and PH for now.

Once you get past the JB-wannabees with their yawnadelic 007 numberplates, there is some good to be gained.  Then their is the type I’m leaning towards, those that are buying the early V8 Vantages from 2005/6 era.  They tend to use them, rather than polish them - and personally, i think they are the best looking Vantage.

Does feel a bit strange though starting to learn about another marque after so long in IB land.

The early V8 Vantages look extremely good value to me, not done any research on running and repair costs so have no idea what living with one would be like

Clutch is a weak spot but most will have been changed at least once by now - it’s 2 grand bill for that alone.

Some high mile cars (80-100k+) are showing some signs of bearing wear, Due to being run low on oil or infrequent oil changes.

Some ally oxidisation on the doors on the early cars due to poor paint quality/prep from the factory -  not easy for good local repairs.

Some quality issues with interior trim on the pre 2009 cars - most suggest the 2009 4.7 is the one to go for due to better quality Interior and pokier engine but they are mid 30s compared with mid-late 20s for an earlier one.  £6k manifold and exhaust change freezes up 40bhp and similar torque on the 4.3 (slurp)

servicing cost are fixed price - not much difference between V8V and V12V hence me going for the latter. £600-1000 dependent on miles.

My insurance is 600 insured via Zurich private clients, with AV and zero NCD, parked on my doorstep (not garaged).

Shirish I'm an AMOC member, rest of the forum please don't disown me, and have been since 1981, but never managed to find sufficient fund to take the plunge. Like most car clubs there's different groups: the poseurs, the know it all's,  and then the enthusiasts.  As with Porsche's there's different camps, and the owners of the 'moderns' do seem to break into two broad categories. In terms of reliability the Regional organiser for AMOC in the West Midlands has a DB9 that has gone round the proverbial clock and has proven to be reliable. As wioth the Esprit thread I suspect it's the usual thing of keeping the car used, and attending to regular maintenance.

Regards (with much envy),

Nigel

Nigel,

I love the looks of AM’s too,  but the cost would always put me of as well,   I drove a Vantage a few years ago and loved it.

I don’t think i could wait that long for a car I’ve got an interest in!

But lets be clear, the only reason I’m in this car because it was 100% cost neutral against the IB.

Operating* costs will be higher for non-service items, but main dealer fixed price servicing is not crazy https://www.astonmartin.com/en-gb/owners/servicing

* i left home today without the tracker fob, when the tracker company called me (received via Bluetooth!) to check up on me.  In a fluster, and not 100% concentrating i managed to scrape the front carbon fibre splitter. I looked into pricing in case i do ever smash it enough to warrant replacement -  2800+ vat to you sir!  (Standard plastic item is 400)

Stuff like that will add up - but routine stuff should be fine.

Plug change every 7 years?  I can live with that.

Sorry, that sounded a bit flippant.

I agree, there is plenty in its locker to leave a grown man crying.  It has 12 months AM warranty which helps, and which I’ll renew in Jan 21

Nice purchase, Shirish. Poster marque of my yewf. V.cool😎

Braver than me. I tested the V8 and DB9 in coupe and cab guises before I bought the 997. Great sound and feel good factor, but the potential future costs scared me off. 8 hours labour to change the plugs! That ally corrosion is actually tri-metallic steel/ally/magnesium reaction and is caused by poor isolation. Dealers ‘fix it’ by respraying the affected panels, but the original cause remains. Largely sorted in later cars I was lead to believe.

One of Twinny Minors clients applied the coup de grace when he calmly said over a beer, every time his Aston went into the dealer the bill started at £3k.😮 He sold his and bought a GTS.

And 15mpg? You’re clearly not trying hard enough... B-  😆

Enjoy it. ‘tis a lovely thing.

Thanks Steve

Yes, MD for non-service items is not cheap, will try to use a local specialist for that and MD for the stamp in the book.

MPG is hilarious (at present) - i filled up the tank today with 95 Ron (330 miles to empty), then saw a clear stretch where I crept above 5k in second for about half mile. Immediately it showed 295 miles to empty :)

that was the same for me before I bought the CR. It was a choice between an Aston or a Cayman and I asked anyone and everyone I encountered in the car world. All I got was tales of high bills and un-reliability for Aston sadly, which is a real shame and also annoying that its always a Brit car manufacturer that cuts corners or tries to fleece you with maintenance. (not that they are alone on that these days!)

Ha brilliant! Our old Cayenne used to amuse me in a similar way. I remember setting off from newcastle once with a full tank and enough fuel to get all the way home, after a bit of fun on the a69 and a few overtakes it had decided that we only wanted to get half way home

Enjoy your new toy buddy, sounds like its quite an experience!

My 930 MPG shocked, only got 125 miles out of the first tank full and when the turbo is going you can see the fuel gauge needle moving towards empty 😲

Range anxiety isn't just for EV's it's for 930's too 😎

Enjoy it Shrish and let it drink as much fuel as you can buy

I was interested why spark plug change in the V12 was so expensive. Apparently the intake manifolds :lol:have to be removed to access them.

Maidstone classic cars will be your friends I think at just £635
