No you need S11RSH with the 1's bunched up together and a black cap over a fixing screw between the 1's or just change your name by deed pole to match your existing plate 👍

Are you from Wolverhampton too by any chance? You’ve been trained well 🤓

If i do that, or get an equally offensive ‘007’ plate, you have my partner’s permission to slap me once per cylinder with a wet haddock

In that case PLEASE get one, always wanted to enact that Python sketch.................

Finally de-SORN arrives - it’s been in lockdown longer than I’ve owned it.

Bamford Rose manifolds and sport primary cats fitted - subtle 3 way switch fitted - so subtle it took me 15 minutes to find the fecker :)   i took a video but honestly it does it no justice.

JayEmm did a video on one recently - I agreed with a lot of his comments, except maybe the firmness of the suspension. It feels no firmer than my old IB, but I think better damped.

After watching a few of his videos recently I realised he's very local to me, or at least the roads he drives on.

So I’ve now driven a few hundred miles with the new manifolds on - its delivered in terms of torque and sound.

The extra torque and the tweak to the map has softened power delivery, but made it easier to modulate  - previously, engage sport mode and throttle become hyper sensitive.  Now however, its much smoother in transition, meaning I’m more confident to press on.

And press on you will, just to hear the bark from the exhaust - I’m still not certain which of the 2 modes is my favourite (ignoring quiet mode of course); all loud is great when you’re in the mood, but Sport meaning it only becomes more sonorous above certain throttle angle/rpms is actually quiet nice.

The downside is that its much louder outside than in with loud mode selected; meaning heads are turning before you’re close to passing people.  Easily controlled with the switch, and actually, quite handy when you’re passing a row of fat blokes in Lycra on expensive push bikes; they tend to merge in to single file way before they need to 😇

If i can get to the run on 26th, I’d appreciate the thoughts of those following.

Having moved into a new house 2 weeks ago, i am no longer dependent on UCC.

Will be great to have it in the garage and use it a bit more spontaneously

One last pic at UCC before leaving.

I don’t know how far you were from UCC but get the feeling you’ve done well to keep the faith. We used to have secure parking just half a mile away at our previous place, even that was wearing a bit thin by the time we moved.

Cheers Simon - they are only 35mins away and a pretty clear run on most days so no hardship really.

That is a great pic - she really shines!   You are only 5 mins away from me (I am in Burpham) so I will keep an eye out for you.

Thanks! Yes they clean it after every ‘return’ so it always looks tip top upon collection.  Happy to take you for a spin once things return to normal.

As you can imagine, the V12’s dynamics are very different to the old IB - weight balance/distribution, PAS, throttle response etc are all at odds with what I’m used to.

So have booked a one day road session with https://www.robertcolbourn.co.uk/

Someone else in the AM Facebook group used him and gave him an excellent review.

Had a 30 min call with him on Sunday, told him areas I need help with and will be meeting him somewhere between woking and Bicester.

Lots to learn, lots to unlearn...

Got a day booked with Rob on Monday, however finding a 10cm pool of green fluid under the engine did not bode well.

PAS fluid level still good - the FB forum suggested an AC leak, with the green being dye added to the gas. Fingers crossed, it’ll be something simple when i take it to HWM on Thursday for a while i wait checkup.  Its still under the Timeless warranty, so any works will be covered.

The car is going back to HWM next week regardless as AM finally relented, and will treat a spot of ally corrosion on the bonnet under their paint warranty.  I will find out tomorrow how much they will paint on the car.

In other news, I’ve never been happy with the standard wheels - for what should be the ‘halo’ model in the Vantage range, they look a bit limp.  So i put a post up on the FB group that keeps giving, and some wheels that he been floating around for a while turned up but freshly powdercoated and less than what they were initially advertised for.  Hopefully they check out for roundness, but i think they look the business.

The only other ‘dilemna’ at present is what to do with the brightwork - i don’t think darker wheels and bright chrome on the side-strake behind the front wheels, or the window surrounds will work that well.  Most cars I’ve seen have been de-chromed, but that could be too much of a contrast for the Tungsten Silver of my car.

Some library pics of what it should look like-ish on the new wheels.  The 5 spokers added for a bit of retro cool, i love the way that one sits.

Anyway, hopefully the tuition day works out - I’m definitely hitting the red line more and more as confidence builds.  Gear changes have improved too after time getting the seating position right (and remembering to save the position!).  I’m also still figuring out what my favourite exhaust/sport switch setting is - the pseudo factory setting working well for me at the mo.

Aston have made such an error of judgement in the design of the current model vantage in my humble opinion. You model of vantage is one of the most beautiful car designs ever and I think will prove timeless, unlike the currnet model which I think will age.

Totally agree - the early cars especially are stunning without the later S/V12 sills and aero stuff.
See Les, I don’t care what the others say about you, I think you’re alright...

Is having it wrapped an option?  Choice of colours/finishes and easily reversible for re-sale?

Very much so - just need to decide how dark to go.  The wheels are a bit lighter than what my crappy iPhone presents below, but still a fair bit darker than the current chrome.

Got the new feet attached, running the same boots; tricky to photo with the iPhone, but anyways, i like them.

Also met with a local car wrap specialist, to decide on a de-chrome in charcoal grey - I’ll visit them after the car returns from HWM, where its going back on Friday for paintwork to the bonnet under warranty.  Not quite sure how much they will need to respray as its only a minor edge of the bonnet, but I’m considering some PPF if whole panels are involved.

Maybe a caliper repaint too in a non-vivid yellow, undecided at present.
