Government and councils are thieving b*stards and I will never change my stance on them in all aspects of life. We are bled and subjugated by them from the moment you earn a wage until after we die! just to keep the wealthy 'wealthy' and the powers that be lording over us mortal plebs.  Anyone who thinks otherwise is a dreamer. I'm not loaded by any stretch, grew up in a council house and worked hard from there on,  just made the best from misfortune :( close family passing away, wife not able to have kids. So yes I do begrudge the endless ways to bleed more out of us or rip working folk off.  Want to dig me out any more?

Mark, I was only messing with you, I enjoy reading about your cars, also enjoy reading about other people on here enjoying their ‘more’ than I have as I’m very content with what I have and where I’ve got to.

If you need cheering up check how much ‘Bollo’ is for your Cayman in Italy or compare Italian income tax rates. Just don’t compare the weather, roads or food as that will just make you grumpy

Back on subject, classic car owners won’t even register on the governments ‘we must be green’ radar  as it’s all about making new money with new green initiatives rather than using what we have for longer or use less of it.

No problem Stephen, raw nerve and all that. From personal experiences I just hate the 'system' in a lot of aspects while having to do (and pay!) my duty for it   sure I'm not alone, and not pleading poverty by any stretch either.

If my car catches fire i'm going to still attempt to drive it into the nearest council office or parliament whilst it still burns  :D bet I still get a congestion charge notice

@MarkJ - move somewhere else?  For quality of life, I recommend most of Europe and New Zealand.  I am actually being semi-serious.

Rapidly falling out of love with the UK.  Nobody on IB should take that personally - you are all good :)

I agree with that sentiment actually. Though Italy may be off the cards for a little while sadly, plus they have the act of taxation even more refined than our own government. Could easily see us living in the French interior (or Italy) somewhere in the future, especially near the mountains if possible :) The wife is Italian and fluent in French as she grew up in Switzerland...hence our penchant for mountains!

Not just us then! 'Falling out of love' is the best way to put it. We haven't made any final decisions but keeping our place in the Pyrenees and finding somewhere else to give us a two centre lifestyle is certainly attractive. Even the notion of 'something' as a base in the UK is probably off the cards now.

Do it Mark!, I bought my special place in the mountains at the cheap end of the Alps 😎 Now looking for a barn and forest to go with it

£200yr tourist tax, £16/mth council tax, our small house costs about the same as the tax, insurance, servicing and MOT for another car.

Europe has so much more to offer than the UK, one day I'm going to have breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and supper in 4 different countries and be back at home in time for bed

Just need to find away to spend more time there 😥

what region Stephen?

A European move is more likely, though if I went long haul I would happily live in California, Canada, New Zealand and Japan ! Have been to all those except NZ (on the to-do list!) and loved each in their own way. UK is cr*p these days to my rose tinted eyes, hate the constant congestion and red/tape political cr*p.  Even my sacred secret back lanes through the countryside are now chock full of morons following a sat-nav where once only intrepid drivers headed

I was in the IB behind some jobs-worth doing about 24mph in a 50mph yesterday who had two signs in the back of his Corsa saying 'the closer you get the slower i'll go' etc....needless to say I again wish the original IB buyer had spec'd twin Hispano 20mm cannons in the nose :D bet said Corsa had dash-cams fore and aft too, D*ck.

Slovenia, Gorjenska region, bought a small house in a small rural 1000 year old Alpine farming village, as the crow flies it's 8km from Austria and 22km from Italy

I could live in California too, may try to have a stint working out there, Canada has an appeal too as I have the right passport, NZ and Japan is just a bit too far

Roads are great in Europe, sometimes I have a mountain pass to myself, like the day below 😎

A little late to this discussion but I have a ‘91 964 and an ‘83 3.8 G body hotrod both based and used in Southern California with the pump fuel sold as “gasoline” and both cars run just fine with no ill effects. Cali moves to 10% Content in 2010 and no changes were made specifically to the 964 though the ‘83 is a recent conversion so modern fuel lines with no issues. As for performance, I have no bench mark but both seem to go quite well. I’m currently back in the UK for a visit and echo some of the sentiments about relocation, California is without doubt, almost car nirvana but there are many downsides which detract from the overall joy of living here. Seriously looking at relocating back to mainland Europe to maintain much of califnia without the downsides. (My two cents and all that.)

I'd be really interested in where you are thinking of. Our place in the Pyrenees is fantastic with a nice climate and great roads but it lacks the infrastructure to support running decent cars and have the supporting lifestyle. I would presume WC has similar issues in Slovenia - enough downsides to make it a great holiday home but imperfect permanent home. If you've found a better compromise that would be great!

Roy M. Tuscany/ mid Italy, current situation not withstanding. Fantastic scenery and roads, easy access to alps, in the middle of Europe so better access to Europe than most places. Reasonable cost of living, welcoming people, and a particularly relaxed attitude to just about everything. Spent much time there and the more I go, the harder it becomes to leave.
