Although I have a long list of "to dos" on both cars I don't seem to have found much time to do them, even in lock down!

Did find time to do the annual  Gliptone feed on the seats in the SC:

I also checked the fan belt, as I put a new one on a while back. Needed a bit of adjustment, but then I remembered the the annoying fiddle caused by the double pulley that used to drive the air-pump:

Decided to fix it by cutting the outer pulley off:

Much better, no need to use the "C" spanner and socket, just a ring spanner and Allen key, and no messing about getting the spacing washers on the alternator shaft.

Oh, and as I've reduced rotating mass the car will be quicker and zinngier  now

What board did you use for the heater shield John?

Its a plastic sheet, 2mm easy to cut and will bend to the shape with the brackets.

I'm not sure its the best choice at the moment as it scratches very easily but it does look much better than the old one and will be behind the carpet.

Cool. Thanks. I have one off my 76 912 that's shot to be honest. Be nice to make a new one. Was thinking ally Rennline style but a bit too modern for that car.

Not much in the scheme of the work on here but just had an enjoyable potter fixing my reversing lights. Suspected switch but once rubber boot removed obvious that one of the wires was broken at the bullet connector. Drilled out old wire and solder, resoldered, checked switch operation with multimeter, reconnected and all fine. Quick clean underneath, rear hub and back of wheel and that's it.

May not sound much but doing a job like this in the sunshine is a real relief from decorating, new ceiling, etc etc!!

This has to be the worst job I have done thus far. Getting this out was an utter ball ache

If anybody can tell me how the cable comes apart I would be grateful!

I just did a milder version of this. Mine were just gummed up so had to remove and clean. But otherwise in good condition. I originally started looking as the heat is permantly going to my feet which is fine in winter, not so much in summer. I suspected the heater boxes were jammed closed. However it was the oppposite, the cable now operates to close the vents when pulled up, to give heat, then re-opens when put down. Think I need new springs perhaps, though not sure where to get them.

So back to the drawing board on the heat issue, but at least they open and close correctly now

Don't bother messing with that clamp. Just release the other end of the outer sleeve at the bulkhead and pull the whole thing off. You can test the cable movement with that removed and if it's OK just fit a new outer sleeve and clamping bracket. Keep the rubber dust boot though!

Cheers

I thought the two fixing would be attached to the clamp but they aren't and so just slid off. I already have the replacement clamp so its all new and works perfectly.

I'm isolated 50miles from my 911, so I am doing theoretical projects currently before I get my work to start shipping parts to me.

Do any of you good people know the OD of the clock (or fuel guage) it's the actual body diameter I need to know not the face.

Sadly google has failed me on this measurement.
