Slightly OT but I'm signed up for MOT reminders for all our cars so I've got a bit lazy about dates. Somehow didn't get one for the Boxster this year which is now out if date!

Luckily my local garage is still working - booked in for Monday

I have reminders set up on my google calendar for all my cars MOT, Services etc etc. - not OT, just very useful in today's busy lives.

Birthdays and Wedding anniversary reminders are extreme useful!

Workshops are allowed to stay open and many would very much welcome your car for its MOT if you can so please don’t delay just because you’ve got an extension, some places may not be there in 6 months time....

But many are short staffed for the same reasons as other businesses that cannot work from home and have people self isolating. Service appointment on my DD has been cancelled as they are (rightly so) prioritising key workers.

Got the Boxster done today. Usually about six mechanics in there but the owner is paying them but asking them to stay home and working single handed. Only two MOT's booked all day and work stopped on a couple of ars as dealers shut so they can't get parts. Hands washed thoroughly before and after MOT, safe distances  observed, and alcohol hand gel on offer to customers so taking every precaution

If you can I'd say support your local garage!

I just had a clutch fitted on a Mini Cooper at my normal MoT garage. I had all the parts so they were able to do it for me but the focus is on key workers. Somehow they have been given a list - fair play. Good  to support as we need them there when it’s all back to normal.

My sons place is going flat out at the moment, they have a very large rural workshop and in the main building and can maintain 10 meters distance.

everything is sanitised, customers leave cars outside and cars they are disinfected before and after work..all paperless no no public interaction other than by phone.their temps are checked twice a day.Masks, gloves etc etc.

parts deliveries being well maintained. Priority is given to key workers but will accommodate everyone if possible.Sunday Sam went in to fix a Doctors Range Rover as they have the diagnostic equipment to reset the EMS and all Landrover specialists shut.

theyre hoping that some of the business will stick post CV19

We’re still working but we’ve sent the staff home. Classic restorations and repairs, again rural, no customer contact - we’re offering free contactless drop off and pickup!

Our storage business is just ticking over as one might imagine.

Thank goodness we’d decided to have a pretty fallow year on the motorsport side, limited customers only when we were competing ourselves.

Fortuitously good decision. Our championship was due to start on 11th April.we’ve spent the winter building a new car and managed a test day on 16th March and the following week MSA suspended all licences .Cant honestly see any proper racing this year, certainly nothing substantial. There will certainly be some big grids and well prepared cars rolling out next year.

Which championship? We were due round one 11th April too, Britcar @ Donny.

I managed to sell one of our race cars week before lockdown, still have two for sale, expect they’ll sit till next year now.

This season we were doing the Castle Combe Saloon Car Championship as well as a few rounds of the 750MC Hot Hatch Championship ,probably Brands, Silverstone and one other as we’ve got friends in there too.last year Sam came second in the Hot Hatch series and second overall so was stepping up to saloons which are stricter and more challenging. As I said, built the new car, ran the new engine on the dyno on the Friday and did a running in tune at 258 bhp , test/shakedown on Monday 16th and then the hammer came down.

its what it is..Racing will be back next year and fingers crossed we may get on track at some stage this year but with not enough time for a championship

stay safe
