Hi Kev,

if you mean the charge pipe that connects the turbo to the intercooler then the K27 7200 turbo isn’t compatible with the standard 930 charge pipe. If retrofitting you need an adapter to retain the original unmodified charge pipe.

The 7200, as fitted to the 965, has, I understand,  a 3 inch inlet whereas the 7006, as fitted to the SE/flat nose, has the smaller 2.75 inch inlet with an O ring the same as the stock 930 3LDZ. I have a 7200 and adapter in my loft so could measure any difference in length.

Patrick Motorsport do another kind of adapter that involves cutting the bottom section off the charge pipe off and sliding a hose over.

Not sure if anything here helps but if yours was modified back in the day to take a 7200 then maybe your cracked charge pipe was bespoke, a bit longer and with the wider neck? Just guessing though.

Hi Kev and David,

I have a K27 7200 installed on my 930.66 which is a 1989 G50 model and I believed it to be one of the last ones made.

David is right about the charge pipe incompatibility. You can get a conversion kit (TurboKraft make one)  but some owners have had issues with this as it involves a degree of "bodgery" involving epoxy glue from what I remember

I got round this by installing a Fabspeed long neck intercooler with the fitting for a K27 7200. It comes with a silicone charge pipe. The intercooler also involves a complete replacement of the standard  930 recirculation system (replaced by a recirculation valve) which may be causing your clacking noise. This was the system used on the next iteration of turbos (965) after the 930. Flange to flange the K27 7200 was about 10mm wider than standard but the flanges were identical. I used a purpose designed hanging mounting bracket made by TurboKraft in CA. Installation was pretty straightforward and the results are excellent with a noticeable increase in useable power v standard

The standard 930 intercooler is barely adequate for the job.

If you want any photos or measurements taking just let me know

Peter

Here is my 7200. The cold intake  is 3 inch (75mm) and the cold outlet, to the charge pipe, is 50mm.

Here is my adapter to the 930 stock charge pipe. I got it from Ultimate Motorwerks with the turbo. It converts to an O ring seal and increases outlet diameter by around 2-3mm. It also extends by 15mm, with the ability to go a little more if you need more charge pipe length with your turbo/IC setup.

Here it’s on the turbo less the O ring.
