I had a sneaky look at W126s for my daughter as a first car here in NZ.  Given the roads and carparks are almost USA size and there is no learner insurance penalty for greater than 1.0 litre hatchbacks, the first car decision is quite different from the UK.

My boss at my first job (25 years ago) had a W126 and I used to regularly borrow it for meetings.  It is the antithesis of Porsche, but very easy to love nonetheless.  He then got a newer 735i.  Nice, but not quite as lovable for some reason.  I am smoking around in my father in laws old cr@p car at the moment - a Vectra.  Still kind of fun in a weird way.  Smokers and barges are cool.

I quite like this, a bit pricey but I guess its down to the provenance.

This is nice too and a bit more down to earth price wise...

Not a huge fan of the S-class, but if Mrs J allowed it, I'd have a W124 280TE in a heartbeat. From the era when Mercs were bulletproof. A chairman at a former employer had one, was a great car, I think when the dealer asked about options he just said 'yes'.  I liked him, he let me have his Mk2 16v GTI (big bumper, natch) as my company car.

Always hankered after a sloping rear screen Anglia as I had one years ago. Sixteen-fifty bored out block with dual twin choke Weber’s and a ported head, 2000E Contina gearbox. Had Capri front discs / struts and and all the usual suspension mods. Fond memories of hill- climbs long passed and gunning it down country lanes.........ah the memories, nostalgia is a powerful thing!

My drool has dried up, COVID price inflation seem bonkers to me 🤔

I'll wait for things to calm down a bit or hopefully correct downward, if prices stay stupid then I'm happy with my lot 🥰

 Absolutely +1

Whilst I openly admit to having something of a Lancia Beta fetish I would love to get hold of a nice HPE - I had one in the early 90s as a daily and it was one of the best cars I have ever owned.  Unfortunately prices starting to go up but still a relative bargain. Forget the Clarkson b*ll*cks these are great cars and were leagues ahead of most typical British stuff of the 70s/early 80s.   Lampredi Twin Cam, dual circuit discs all round, 5 speed, Macpherson struts with first mainstream multi-link rear suspension, 120 Bhp, quick, fabulous neutral handling for FWD.

This looks nice for £9K

This is so true, perhaps lots of people still working and not spending on travel to work holidays and going out so buying cars, been looking for a Peugeot S1 Rallye £5K for a dog, prices have gone mad.

The estimate for this seems rather low if only relative to recent prices rather than the prices 10 years ago. Maybe because it is red but it is manual which most fo the 400s don't seem to be.

That could be a canny buy. The interiors are so much nicer on those early ones.

That sold at silverstone auctions last year for 24k so a healthy mark up

I like both of them :) That pork looks seriously mean, imagine turning up to a trackday in that :steering:

Maseratis look and sound mega but their running costs are crippling, with really expensive parts.
