I need to stop looking at this thread, what a good looking car, I'm getting tempted to get one myself

Any thoughts on this? Would value some opinions if you don't mind.

Looks like three years with current keeper. Recent MOT history clean enough. Some ABS flags a few years back.

Sensible miles, good colour, pan roof, boring seats. Bid him and see what happens. Get it inspected - check TB wiring, roof hydraulics, ABS, fault codes etc

Thanks John.

What does TB stand for, and there is anyone who specialises in these for inspections?

Up until the 911, every car I bought I inspected myself, but if you think the car warrants a professional inspection I may go down that route.

Throttle body , you should have no issues with wiring as that only affects early cars , the one you posted is a lastfacelift car so can suffer with some Chrysler cost cutting ..

oops no it’s not .. first facelift but fitted with Zenons  .

I got mine a b service , gbox filter and oil service , new steering damper and all the suspension checked over at my local MB Indy just after it arrived , other than that it’s all good .. for reference mines a 98 with pano etc with 56k miles and I paid £12500 from a dealer ..

Just see where the nearest Merc garage is and let them have a poke. Won’t be too dear. I prefer the earlier cars but the 5-speed 500 is the G50 of 129s 👍🏻

Thanks to the both of you, very much appreciated.

£12500 from a dealer, that looks a very good buy in comparison with what else is for sale.

It was up for £14k , as JG says chuck a bid in .

Mine doesn’t have heated seats but everything else is there .
They all came with a hard top and wind diffuser so both should be there , from 97 the pano roof was standard afaik . Does he have the original 16” wheels as well ? With the roof off they drive much better with a big sidewall ..

Mine has left to right.

remote boot release , alarm off for towing , central locking and hazards , on the right is asr (traction control ) and a button to raise and lower the roll hoop so you can fit the wind diffuser , that one also has a cd radio , mine came with a multi loader in the boot ... loads of options.

That was just good timing: right at the start of lockdown and we discussed what to bid the guy based on a few other things one could see from his stock.

Ignoring the craziness of SL Shop and 4 Star Classics etc, I don't think prices have galloped off on these. I didn't buy mine on the basis of that - albeit I did buy it on the basis that they could not stay where they were forever - but I think if you have the cash sitting there doing nothing then they are a nice thing to have for a while, won't cost much to own if you get a good one and the same sort of money comes back to you anytime. I wouldn't borrow money to own one at £12k.

Black is a good colour. I like those wheels. They are such sweet cars and satisfying to own but won't make the heart race like something lighter does. As an older friend said when I bought mine: "clear sign of an ageing petrolhead".

Wonder what your old friend would make of my 'next car buy' list of must have's 🤔

I want double glazing, a fridge and wood (sound more like a house than car) along with heated/cooled and massaging seats, has to have a V8 or V12 but I think I could slum enough to go without a heated steering wheel or soft close doors

Good luck with your search, Jellyfish

LOL, like you need to ask what he would think.

I am about to get a CLS in from a mate to sell for him. It is high miles but he has spent a fortune on it - will be about £2200. Not a V8 but those things have spec coming out their ears.

I had a pootle round various 'interesting' car dealers in the 911 on Friday including the SL Shop. I was in there for a good 20 minutes with the 911 sat outside their front door, and nobody spoke to me to see if I was interested in anything.

John McGurk at McGurk's in Kineton was the complete opposite. Highly motivated and very apologetic about the lack of stock, seems that everyone is following Shirish's lead and getting into Astons.

What a surprise. A lucky escape!
