Brake cooling ducts for 3.2 Carrera

Recommended Posts

Wow!! thanks to everyone for all the info and feedback.

Just survived the first day back after 'lockdown'................nightmare!!

Having signed off last night, saying that I had decided to get a fibreglass duct.....................I've decided to hold off on that idea, until I try a couple of plastic ducts for size. So...I've ordered 2 different ducts from Merlin Motorsports..........one is made of ABS plastic and I'd value Peter's input on the issues with bonding to that material.  The second duct is made of high density polyethylene.  I will post photos of the ducts in-situ.

I am using the small side scoop and a notch in the underside of the bumper, along with aluminium sheet to force all air through the Carrera oil cooler...I'll try to attache a photo or two.

With the extra 'horses' and Pirelli Trofeo tyres..............and my inability to drive properly / learn sense...........I was roasting the standard brakes, so I decided to put the '78 onwards Turbo brakes on.........I know......complete overkill madness...........but!!

Went to the Oulton Park RS day in 2019 with the brand new setup, including the 964 / 993 scoops (running Porsche supplied 964 Textar pads..............and was delighted with the brakes, however, it was slightly damp and became wetter in the afternoon.  There was some fade and the pedal did begin to travel, so I decided to swap the pads to Ferodo DS2500's for this years Oulton Park RS day.................it was a scorcher of a day from early until late........and the brakes got a proper workout in the dry conditions...............so much so, that there was considerable fade and the pedal was heading for the floor.  During lockdown, I have since installed the Tarrett ducted backing plate, the hub block off plate and will use the Carbone Lorraine RC5+ pads for the next track day.........whenever that is.

I was going to use the under A arm scoops from Tarrett to connect to the ducted backing plates................but then the 'lockdown' was extended.............and I decided to fit an original C3 Whale Tail........... which needed to be balanced with the front valance rubber lip.............. which meant swapping the original SC valance without any holes............for a Carrera valance with all the holes...................and that's how I've got to this point!!
