Busybee Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 So, after getting my 981 Boxster S absolutely on the money for me with a plenum upgrade, exhaust upgrade, map etc and extracting 350hp from a stock 310hp car, I foolishly test drove a new Cayman 4.0 litre GTS. Brain disengaged, man maths calculator out and I set to work on making that happen. Whilst configurating a brand new Boxster GTS, my eye was always on what's out there. Was it really what I wanted. What else can I have in its stead. Along came a Spyder! lol The Car I lusted after for several months when I first saw it launched, watched the first reviews etc. Man maths says its an extra 20hp, has proper Porsche Motorsport hands on it and is rare in the scheme of things so must be a more stable spend and a whole lot more fun. Decision made I looked. Few about, mostly crazy money with one brand new one being offered at 20% above list from an OPC! Robbing ********! But I found one that was for sale with just 193 miles on the clock at Ashgood Porsche. It had one registered owner who bought this and a 718 GT4 at the same time! A multiple Porsche buyer who takes up every allocation apparently to see if he likes it and sells on regularly. In this case he decided he wanted more track time so kept the GT4, sold the Spyder. He sold it to Ashgood (who just chop cars for him by the sounds of it) who promptly sold it to a chap near London. This fella just bought it sight unseen and never drove it. He didn't even register it. He sent it to Auto Protek to have a full PPF and ceramic coating at a cost of 4.5K then decided he didn't want it after all. OMG! How the other half live! Step in moi and my 981. I called and they offered me a mediocre PX on my 981. I said nope, I wanted more and they agreed! Job done. Drove to Ashgood last Friday and gave them my keys and took the Spyder! How easy was that! Just involved a couple of sleepless nights wrestling with a spend like that and buyers remorse etc. I even managed to blag a porker car cover while I was there 😂 Options. Its pretty much as I would spec it. Black with the red/black/silver Spyder Classic interior pack, red roof, carbon bucket seats (heated), heated multi function steering wheel, led headlights with PDLS, reversing Camera, alcantara sun visors and the usual spyder bits like sports exhaust, chrono, torque vectoring etc. I've doubled the mileage on it binging it home and am sticking to the 4k RPM advice for running in. 1865 miles. Boy that's going to be tough! Bloody hell. What a thing! Don't buy any of the sounds crap BS. It sounds epic and I've only taken it to half its rev range! I've even watched reviews saying its too quick. Will only use 3rd gear most of the time. Isn't that true of any 400hp+ car on the public road these days? 4000 rpm in 6th gear is 3 digits. Just to satisfy my curiosity you understand. Had builders in vans giving me the thumbs up on the motorway, Petrol station fill ups fully masked talking to guys who wanted to know what it was, ladies fluttering their eyelashes at me on the motorway (must have had something in their eye I reckon). lol Roof is a total faff, who cares! Its my high days and holidays car and I'm hoping to cross to France in it next year to take Mrs BB for a post covid holiday. This, Daisy and my old uber stock SC, my perfect trio. JLewis Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Very nice purchase! I’m just waiting on the bumper coming back and fitted, and then it’s MOT time. Not sure if it’ll stay. Life’s too short, and plenty of cars I’d like to try, so the 3.2 and Lotus Exige may go and be replaced with one. 1
