Dyeing headlining black

Recommended Posts

My headlining has a few water ingress type stains on it.  I remember @MrPerkles and @AirCooledExcellence dyed their headliner black using shoe stain? But I can't remember what the results were like.  Anyone else done this that might have a pic/thoughts on it?

Also, does anyone have a black headlining in their cars - does it make it a bit dingy or is it OK?

When I had my bodywork done a couple of years ago Sportwagen replaced my cream/off white headliner with a black one.  For me it’s much nicer, doesn’t look dingy as the cabin is quite light anyway.

I dyed mine black using the liquid shoe dye. I like it, not to dark at all but I have a lightish interior. Easy to do but make sure you cover up as there will be drips.

I used vinyl spray paint from Halfords to change my blue headlining to black about 7 years ago. Easy to do after a bit of masking and has lasted well.

Interior is no dingier than the SC which has an original cream headlining.

Yep, I'm another with a black headlining. I fitted a new Classic Line one when the car was repainted. It's looks great in black. I used vinyl dye to do the visors from cream to black.

I remember using a stain on mine, took a couple of coats and a messy job, but looked great in the end 😀

Did it ruin the red carpet Tim ?
