Thin belt sanders

Recommended Posts

I have a B&D KA900E.  Works well at removing material although it has a fixed arm and a larger head/handle so can be awkward at times trying to get the right position to do the job.  I usually get a load of zirconia belts off eBay as the B&D belts last no time at all.

I have had this this one for about 5 years: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B007QTJZJ0/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&aaxitk=hm3YaCntk5lQ9yHYkDfhPw&hsa_cr_id=4792967940002&pd_rd_plhdr=t&pd_rd_r=3bbbe243-3527-4b7d-9a91-ef370d1c4eac&pd_rd_w=jNkF5&pd_rd_wg=HeBen&ref_=sbx_be_s_sparkle_mcd_asin_0_img&th=1

It gets plenty of abuse and I get the belts off Ebay for a few £.

That Sealy one looks nice and compact though, but is it powerful enough?

They all wear our the front jockey wheel before anything else, so it's good if you can buy the spare parts.  The Evolution one came with a spare.

Thanks Nige, I hadn’t thought about the power aspect as it says it’s for bodywork. Might do a bit more research

I've got the Silverline one, which has a more compact body and the pivoting head. It's ok quality, obviously not a premium option but it's been fine.

That’s interesting.  The Silverline and the Sealey seem identical apart from colour, logo etc.  Obviously made by the same company but why is there such a difference in price?

I've got an air one made by Nielson(sp?) which does what I need it to do. Cheap tool but fairly solid construction - I've mostly gone away from electric powered Sanders as the switches etc seem to get clogged up easily in the environment they're used in.

Thanks Ian, a couple of people have recommended this one.  My only concern Is the configuration of it in terms of where the motor sits, it’s not very slimline.  I like the layout of the Sealey/Silverline ones but their power output is lower than some.  I need a smallish machine to access some areas for a particular job.  Decisions, decisions!

I had the Black and Decker one before the Evolution.  It's decent bit of kit but I burnt it out after much use and a couple of jockey wheels.  I find the Evolution better as the handle/motor part can be rotated for better access, it also comes with a spare jockey wheel part.

Anyway Ian,  they're only about £50 and you spend more than double that hair product per month.

Me too. Works fine for what I need it for. Multi angle head comes in useful too.

😂 I’ll tee ‘em up Gary, you hit ‘em!

Funny, I wrote a comment on the vaccine thread, read it back, then thought.....”Nah, Gary will have an absolute field day with that,” so deleted it! 🤔😆
