Idling speed issue

Had a problem with the idling speed on a journey back from Staffordshire today. Not only was it running fast but it was surging between 1,000 rpm and 1,600 rpm. Once I got home I did IT fault finding 101 and turned the engine off and back on again, and the idle was normal.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

I’ve had the same issue a while back and ended up buying another idle control valve, as cleaning did not help.

However do try and clean it first, as this may work for you

Good luck

To me the fact that its Hunting , would suggest that a cylinder is not firing properly; start with the HT leads, then visually check the wiring to Speed/Top dead sensor  running by NSR  wheel.

Air leaks can cause hunting.  Have you checked the oil recently - is the cap (& its seal) on tightly ?

My hunting issue was air leaks, between induction and cylinder heads. Built a simple smoke machine with a soldering iron, baby oil and a pickle jar. By coincidence, these items also appeared in another moment in my life during a heavy drinking session with the nuns but that story’s for another day ;)
