Have you checked the filter in the tank? It should strain most of the crap out unless is damaged?  On the bottom of the tank looks like a drain plug, but is actually this. Prevents crap being drawn into the fuel pump.

You know what, I haven't, but I will.

Thanks Wayne.

On the electric windows, before you strip the mechanism down, blast the switch with contact cleaner.  I was about to replace mine because it was really slow. I decided to clean the switches first - worked like a charm and they are both working perfectly now!

I'll do that, the mechanisms have been stripped and cleaned and thinking about it one of the switches is a bit dodgy anyway, and I think its the slow drivers one.

They are interchangeable so you can swap it over and see if that impacts it 👍

Fitting a fresh windscreen in the car. There is a windscreen company near me here that the owner was retiring from and he was offloading some old stock he had, in that was some 911 screens so I got one for AUD$250, halve that for pounds.

Current screen is I think US spec as it's tinted all over, not really legal in Australia, the new one is clear with the upper tint band which is/was Aust spec if you wanted some sun protection. Current screen is not the original either as as well as one of the front quarter windows (probably from a break-in), the screen is pitted a bit and has a small stone crack starting to form down low in the middle. I bought a new rear vision mirror to fit and the attachment button, old mirror showing its age around the edges. Seems to be two types of mirror as well, the mirrors themselves are the same size and shape but they come with either the smaller button attachment or the larger 4 sided attachment that was on mine, had only seen the smaller button one around here before I got this car.

You can see the difference in the tints, had just glued the mirror button on.

Some soapy spray to help fit the trim back in, bought a new rubber seal for the new screen, old one was OK but I sliced off the inner lip to make it easy to remove the old screen.

I took the opportunity to clean any surface rust out of the lower corners of the window surrounds and coated them with epoxy enamel, when that dries I'll fit the new screen.

And the new screen is in. Still need to massage it in a bit, you can see the rubber seal just dropping into the top corner but all else is good.
While fixing the mirror in place the button fell off, the first attempt at gluing it on the glue system said to wipe the screen area with the applicator, none on the button just a drop of the glue. Button came off leaving the glue on the screen, scrapped that off then used some glue from JB Weld and their instructions said you coat the button with the applicator and none on the screen, that worked.

Crystal clear, car is getting close to what it must have been like to drive one out of the showroom, not counting the mods.

Have you got a link to the glue you used? I bought some 3M stickers for my rear view mirror that were supposed to be exactly for this purpose and i'm on my 3rd one now. So need a better solution. Thanks

Not sure about a link but here's a photo of the glue, made in the good old US of A

Will be tomorrow, I think I'll head up to Perth for the annual Porsche Club of WA concourse and see what's going on.

Did the run up to Perth, not a lot of air-cooled cars but numbers probably in proportion to the rest of the range on display, bit of everything there. Summers in full swing now.

This is a friends Metallic Black 964 Turbo, only 46,000km on the clock. Originally delivered in Singapore and came with the factory S spec 3.3lt motor, has the S fiberglass rear spoiler with no rubber lip. Interior is grey and totally unmarked. Not so long ago it was offered to me at a price less than what my car is worth now, is now worth 4 times that, would be pretty nervous taking it out as current owners of these must be because you never see them on the road here any more.

Just to the left is a very original 74 911S in Aubergine with Burgundy interior, pretty cool little car in the flesh.

My that weather looks awful. How do you cope?

Regarding the windscreen seal not fitting in the corners, use a piece of wood about 10 cm thick and with a round profile that roughly matches the shape of the ali trim in the corner. Place the round profile against the trim and gently tap it outwards with a hammer (be very careful for obvious reasons :)). The trim bends outwards and pushes the seal into the corner.

Sunscreen, hat and sunnies 😎

Thanks Les, I had tapped it outwards from the center join and worked the trim by hand in the corner with some success, had thought of doing something like you mentioned to gain a bit more force to work the trim in the corner so now you have mentioned it I've more confidence to do so.

I had a bit of a leak in the lower corner after I had a new screen and seal fitted. I remember reading about this somewhere and think it was actually a factory instruction / method and it worked a treat for me.

The Black car is currently up for auction on Collecting Cars here in Australia, into it's last 48 hrs.
I've bought a very low mileage 997.1 Turbo that will take me into the future, it was deemed not appropriate to tie up so much of our funds in Porsche's so the SC looks like going. Would dearly love to keep it as it's genuinely more engaging to drive and given what's been done it would probably be more reliable moving into the future. May keep it yet if the car doesn't reach reserve, pretty special little car.
See how we go.

I went down that road but with a 996 Turbo. Was back in an SC in less than 3 months. The turbo was a fast and more comfortable car but missed the SC too much.
Hope it works out for you and good luck with the auction 👍

Realistically should keep for 6-12 months and see how I feel then.

One thing I did get from putting the car on the market was some nice photos :whistling:

Some great photos, I'd be amazed if that doesn't sell quickly.

Will you also advertise it in the UK, good cars are often imported back.

Things have slowed here with the market, have had various enquiries from over east but always from bargain hunters that just don't have the cash and were hoping for a desperate seller, which I am far from at this point. The car is for sale below the cost of replacement/build of a car to this level.

Three people have actually viewed the car/test driven, the first guy wanted to buy it immediately for asking price but couldn't get permission, second guy didn't know much about aircooled Porsches and wore me out with weeks of indecision, after checking out what is available and what it would cost to sort to anywhere near this cars level of finish and performance he now gets it and wants it but also hasn't quite got the cash. The last guy to check the car out is a collector, he was pretty amazed at how the car performed and how fresh and tight everything is which I explained is because everything is as new, it's a genuine nothing to spend car unless you want to change things to your own taste. He has to test drive a stock 3.2 G50 boxed Carrera that they want more for than my car before he makes a decision, it was apparently too hot to test drive it on the allotted day so still awaiting the verdict. He did drive my car though and it was a very hot day but I have one of Jonny's AC systems, and the car itself didn't even raise a sweat.

Thing is the car is becoming more valuable to me, I bought a hi spec low mileage 997 Turbo with the intension of selling the IB on but the Turbo has only proved how good, fun and special the IB is regardless of how amazing the Turbo is too, very different cars for very different occasions and mood of driving. Combined you really have it all, unless I can get what the car is really worth it stays, or the Turbo may go if push comes to shove.

Not sure if it could get the price in the UK, I think these things are still far more expensive here, mind you the quality is very high here too as in totally rust and repair free cars.

Cheers,

Phil

Really don't understand why you would consider disposing of it if you don't need to, especially given the work you have put into it. You do realise that if you do sell, every time you see an IB out in the wild you will wish you still had one!
