Siy Posted July 27, 2021 Share Posted July 27, 2021 (edited) Hi guys, I have an 82 SC with the turbo rear spoiler on it. However, the whaletail is not in very good condition. the rubber is coming off the edges, and the grate is broken in a few places and hanging on with cable ties! have found a great specialist in Ottershaw to do plenty of work on the car for me. Just wondered if anyone knows if it is possible to get a new grate for the spoiler. the rubber can be bonded back on (to some degree at least)... but that still leaves me with the grate to repair. not sure if nayone knows any specialist that may be able to repair, or if you can buy that piece seperately anywhere. the other suggestion was just try to buy a new spoiler and paint it red. The mesh under the opening grille is not original. It should have two fine mesh sections (left and right side) with a louvered panel underneath it held on by small captive bolts and nuts etc.. It is difficult to tell from your pictures if the actual tail is a standard one. It looks very wavy, but that maybe paint build up. Standard they are made from a hard resin type plastic, aftermarket are usually fibre glass. Look at the broken ends closely to see if you can see any fibres. Either way it can be mended with a suitable resin and filled. However, it will be a fiddly job for a Body Shop and take some time, so maybe not cost effective.
