Webby's Story Pt2 - The restoration

Recommended Posts

So in April this year Webby was booked into Autobody Technic in Langley (Slough) to have it's bodywork looked at. I'd been recommended the there by a a few people. Bob, one of the owners, had given the car a once over on my drive and I liked his attitude.
The initial work have been to replace the passenger slam panel where it had rusted through, kidney bowls and sills. But when one of the wishbone mounting bolts pulled it's mount whilst working on the suspension refurb, I knew there would be more.
I'll let the picture tell the story.

It's now back together with all the major panel work done, all Epoxy primed. It's now going into paint shop prep where it'll be rubbed down, any finishing done, rubbed down again, and then an all over paint job of L35V Metallic Marine Blue.

Looking good, other than the work on the front end thats all the typical spots!

Thanks. Good to see you're making progress with yours, was wondering because there hadn't been an update for so long.

And so to the real artistry. These are taken from a video, so not great quality. Bob has done an amazing job, the colour is so deep and has an pearlescent quality so it appears to change colour in different lights. I'm just blown away.

And never forget the bits you can't see. Good for another 30+ years.

After nearly 10 Months in the body shop she's back home. Only a couple of photo's because it was raining and I wanted to get her in the garage. The engine has been dropped by Jaz who are give it a cleanup. After seeing @fat fuchs post the first job this weekend will be to give the engine bay a good degrease and clean out, luckily I had good look underneath and no rot in those areas. Then the rear suspension and trailing arms will be removed for cleaning, plating, new bushes and shocks.

Amazing job - make sure you don't drive it anymore in case it starts to get dirty underneath again 😄

I checked, they didn't turn it into a garage queen Ferrari during the restoration, it's still a Porsche so it'll still get driven as it's meant to be. (Just more rinsing of the trouble spots)

Car is looking great. Some impressive bodywork done there👍

Thanks, I've followed your posts, those have been some top notch restorations. I'm sure I'll be referring to them when I trim the interior.

Not many jobs done since it came back. Engine bay has had a good degrease and clean. Sound proofing panel disintegrated when touch.

Rear callipers removed ready to be refurbished, Brake pipes were seized on solid, couldn't remove without destroying them 😞

The real bad news was from Steve@Jaz, who is cleaning the engine up. When they took the camshaft covers off, 6 broken head studs! Will require a top-end strip down at least. Ouch I've got a paint in my wallet.

Wow, that's not what you want to hear after getting all the bodywork completed. Hopefully you can get away with just the top end and avoid the 'while you're in there' temptations.

Cheers
