If you are thinking about how to monitor charging on the go in your car this Pelican article might be of interest. A few different options but I quite liked the last one, the VDO gauge which fits in place of the clock and seems readily available for a reasonable price.

I have one on my motorbike as is goes through regulator rectifiers about once a year and the meter gives me advance warning so I am ready to coax the bike home and fit a new one.
