Hello,

I ordered the black replacement grill for the engine lid, but the installer just informed me that the replacement grill does not have a hole or allocated space for the wiper spindle to fit through.  I had originally spoken with and ordered the grill from design911, based on the 1980 targa model.   I just check their site again and I don't see a grill with space for a hole.  (FYI: I asked the garage to remove a non-original whale tail, and return to sloping back).

I have seen pics of SCs and it seems the wiper spindle should fit at the intersection of the top horizontal and 2nd from left vertical bar of the grill -- but no hole is made in the grill.

I purchased this: https://www.design911shop.com/Grille-for-Rear-Spoiler-Lid-Porsche-911-74-89/prod125916/?source=doofinder

Thanks.

Isn't there a relief hole marked on the underside of the grille which needs cutting out?

Your first and probably only mistake 😉

Send it back and take advice from Matt at @Type911

I have a excellent spare grill with wiper notch, happy to swap though it 25+ years old.

And, IIRC, you'll need a new spindle for the wiper assembly - worth pricing one before you do any cutting

Here is a close up of a Decklid and grill I’m about to sell. Gives you an idea of the hole in the decklid and the cut in the grill. You can see on that other photo of the grill, the guide lines you need to follow
