Hi, I’ve been offered a set of 15” 7&8 Fuchs to put on my sc. The wheels aren’t perfect but certainly look ok but the tyres are about knackered so would need replacing.

From what I can gather 195/65-15 front and 215/60-15 rear is what would have been used originally. Front tyres aren’t a problem but rear tyres in that size are limited, especially to get a matching set an a reasonable price (thinking less than £100/corner)

So this might be a dumb question to those in the know but could I put a 205/60 or 225/60 on the rear, would they handle and look ok? Had a quick scan on Camskills and there are a lot more options in those sizes.

Any thoughts and advice appreciated…

cheers James

Those original sizes you quote are for 6s and 7s. 205 and 225 will be far better for 7s and 8s.

Ah right ok, I didn’t realise that, that should make matching a set up much easier, I’ll have another look. Thanks 👍

I have just put 15" Fuchs on my car.

Tyre wise I have gone for Bridgestone which I cannot fault in the wet/cold on front end grip. I have 205/65 front and 215 60 rear.

Also depends how you want to use the car - track/road etc 👍

Most likely I’ll only ever use it on the road, it’s nicknamed the “milk float” because of how often I go on a 30 mile round trip just to get the milk on a Sunday evening 😂

Your car looks great 👍 I’ll check out the Bridgestone tyre sizes.

It seems difficult to get tyres of the brand and spec from one supplier. I’ll have to look and see if I can put a set together using different suppliers, it’s a bit of a faff though… maybe I’ll stick to my 16” 6&7s, it doesn’t look a miss as it is.

If the 15 x 7 & 8s you are being offered are a decent price then buy them anyway.  They don't often come up for sale often at a sensible price, if at all.

Yeah thats a fair point. I reckon I’ll probably end up buying them.

Is milk such a rare commodity in North Leicestershire?!

Hardly, im a farmer, albeit beef and sheep, but our neighbour is a dairy farmer. I use the fetching the milk excuse to bugger off in my car for hour

I had a ring round a few tyre suppliers this afternoon including blackcircles, camskills and my local tyre firm and they all told me a matching set of tyres in 205/65-15 and 225/60-15 are not easy to come by. Furthermore the chap at camskills wasn’t happy about supplying non N Rated tyres for a Porsche even though N rated are not available for those wheels, work that one out?
None of the big brands, continental, Pirelli etc have tyres in those sizes that match front and back.

The tyres I have found so far are

Falken ziex ze310

Toyo proxes cf2

Uniroyal Rain expert 3

non are a sports tyre as such but all have a V speed rating.
Has anyone any had any experience with any of these tyres?

Just to add to this, getting 15 inch wheels right is the biggest single improvement to feel, balance and handling possible for early 911’s.

I have also found that they are not overly tyre sensitive. My tyre of choice was a Kumho Solus based on stability when pushed not outright grip. Hopefully any of the test pilots that ventured out in my SC will testify to the above.

However,………….

I now must now confess, this year will be fitting a set of 16 inch wheels for road use as 15’s are getting difficult to find and I don’t like the ‘teflon 6000’s’.

Cheers thanks for all the info. Ive got to be honest with both the cost and hassle of gettIng 15” tyres plus the cost of the actual wheels themselves ive pretty much gone off the idea. The wheels i have are pretty much mint and i had some rear spacers put on when it went into centre gravity for some other work so it looks pretty good as it is.
I really like the look of the group 4 campags in 7&8s so that’s a much easier option that would probably cost less and give a totally different look to the car.

If they're straight and under £1k buy em.  Probably better than money in the bank.

I’ve got a brand new set of satin gold campy’s in 7” and 8” x 16 that will be for sale if you’re interested.

I’ve decided to go down a different route so I’m not going to be using them now.

I think I was watching gt two’s wheels on eBay for a good while, they were for sale including the tyres, I was very tempted. I just wasn’t sure gold wheels were for me…

I thought maybe anthracite was a bit more subtle on a silver car…

Sorry these sold with the tyres. They looked so good on and I really wasn't sure about selling them but I set out on this project with a look in mind and 15" Fuchs were key to that.

My C3 came with the option of 7&8x15s with 50-profile tyres, 205 and 225. Few options in those sizes now, but I recently fitted Pirelli Cinturato P7s - pricey but good...
