How much (charging) voltage is too much for a CDI?

It's been suggested by Mr Jonny Hart that my old CDI may have been killed by over high voltage, so I used my little battery monitor gadget to measure it. 14.2v with engine at idle although it raises very little with revs. Q; is that too much? Should I replace the alternator voltage reg?

14.2-4v Sounds about right to me.

My volt meter in the dash is usually 14.2 +\- v. HTH
