Hi,

I have recently noticed a noise upon idle and best way I can describe it is a sloshing sound!  It is not a grinding, scraping or alarming noise nor is it apparent in the engine bay…only when sitting in drivers seat.

I am thinking it might be the oil flowing from oil tank to oil cooler and back.

Would this be a potential explanation?

Anyone experienced anything similar?

thanks

Chris

I think your right in saying it could be the oil flowing through the oil cooler pipes, I am sure I had the same noise on my 1981 SC.

I do remember a thread on here somewhere about a specific brand of oil filter being 'noisy'. May be worth a search if you haven't already.

I think your right in saying it could be the oil flowing through the oil cooler pipes, I am sure I had the same noise on my 1981 SC, something to check, have a look at the steel oil pipe running under the jacking point, it has been know for the car to be jacked up or lowered onto axle stands on the oil lines and crushing them!

Thanks for all the replies.

I will change the oil and oil filter as the latter is due a change anyway - see if it has been causing the noise.  I won’t open the debate on what oil to use/is recommended and will stick with my preferred brand and viscosity!  While it is relatively fresh oil (under 1,000 miles) I suspect it might be a cocktail of brands and viscosity which may not be helping matters.

I did notice that one of the oil pipes was slightly dented but is only ever so slight and not crushed.  I doubt the size of the dent could be culprit.  I will however do a comprehensive check along full length of pipe just incase.

I tried to take a video/sound clip but it is not noticeable.  I will try and again and see if I can capture the noise.

thanks again
