Hi could anyone identify this wire and also the pipe Save 

me pulling out more stuff. Ventilation system

The Wire colour is Blue with a  white trace and a very thin gauge its by the rear of oil gauge just hanging there see picture. The hose has a broken peice of pipe stuck into it  the other end goes into a clear pipe and exits after the battery through inner wing .

Exit point of pipe lower then battery.  Just removed head lamp and its connected to a brown pipe .

The cloth covered rubber hose looks like it could be the brake fluid res overflow.  The plastic bit in the end should be attached to the fluid res.

That pipe has been disconnected  ever since since I've owned the car 10 years  ago . But I've changed brake fluid several times . Thanks for the information.

I would say Nige is spot on … my reservoir overflow did the same thing . I think the plastic gets brittle and breaks right on the join with the reservoir

Pipe now reconnected. Why did porsche need a pipe to vent the brake reservoir ? .  Also I've pull out the oil pressure gauge still can't track the blue wire with white trace couldn't see it on the wiring diagram car is  a 1987 Targ.everything looks to work Any ideas .

Not a vent, an overflow.

In case of overfill, or when fitting new thicker pads that displace more fluid than the old ones.

Its also cleverly designed to ensure that you spill most of your new brake fluid onto the floor under the car when pressure bleeding your brakes, as a result of forgetting (every time) to plug it. :)

Yep, you need to clamp that hose to bleed your brakes properly.
