Despite more than 60% of respondents in the "consultations" saying they don't want the ULES zone expanded, it will be expanded by August next year.

I will be just within the expanded zone (less than 1/4 of a mile), so £12.50 every time I take one of the cars out of the garage!

The SC will qualify as Historic (tax, congestion and ULES exempt) in April 2024 so I only have the problem for around 9 months. The 3.2 qualifies in April 2025 so one year 9 months of extra charges.

So use them less , lay them up, pay £87.50 a week to use one every day?

Must admit this made my blood boil, its pure taxation theivery. 💩 So now i can no longer take the IB to go and see my ageing parents who live in the ULEZ zone, half hour away from me and the perfect mode of transport to get to and from, due to a longish blat down the A2 or A20. The whole 'open' area of Bexley doesnt suffer any polluted air other than the A2 itself as its often a carpark!  Khan is a greedy pr**k 🤑

There are quite a few classic car (and IB) owners who will now be affected by this pointless extra taxation.

We will have the last laugh though, as soon as you get to the historic taxation class it's bye-bye U(se)LEZ charge 😀

@SilverWT Historic status still liable for congestion charge.

Weirdly I am in the London borough of Croydon but my road just falls outside the ULEZ. I don't know why but I'm not going to rock the boat.

My sons Golf is non compliant so if he turns left off the drive he will get caught after 300 yards, if he turns right he is good to go, out into the counties. Absolutely not fair though.

We have a 3.2 engine from an Audi TT to go in the car which is compliant. We will try to get it registered as such but I imagine there will several hoops to jump through.

Both Croydon and Sutton boroughs have said they will not support the ULEZ. Effectively this means Saddick Khan can't use their furniture to mount his cameras. How this will play out in reality remains to be seen.

I can't believe there won't be a legal challenge from somewhere though. This madness has to stop.

I'm also with the new zone, ouch!

Its just a bloody money making exercise for the mayor as he can't balance his books elsewhere, unfortunately it will hit the elderly, small businesses and lower income family which perhaps can not afford a newer vehicle.

Mines a 1986 car so a few years to go before historic status.

same Beaky, ala an '86 car. Cant wait to stick two fingers up to the tax office when it no longer needs taxing, but sure they will find another way of souring the ownership experience by then

What i dont get is who they consulted? nobody i know was asked if they want it and i know quite a lot of people in the Bexley area of all ages. Plus the little dictator decides to override the 60%+ anyway of his 'chosen consultees' :smiley_1140:

In fairness though there is an issue with air quality in cities and this is seen as a quick win.  Sadly people are dying due to poor air in UK cities so the do nothing option is not an option.

Don't forget all the poor buggers who own diesels up to about 2015. That could potentially be an expensive car that need to be moved on.

This is only partly true.

The mother of the little girl who sadly died of Asthma complications blamed on pollution, by her own volition, stated that it wouldn't make much difference as it only affected a small number of vehicles.

Bexley is nowhere near the flipping city! its a 40minute train ride (at best!) thats what makes this extension just a cash cow. Inner city, yes i agree with curbing emissions but even that should come with compensation for peoples now defunct cars and vans, not just told 'oh we decided to outlaw your vehicle unless you pay us lots of money every day'

Exactly, electrifying busses and local authority HGVs would have a greater positive effect, as would converting all the diesel construction plant used in the cities.

My council, Bexley, now says it is in negotiations with other opposing councils to jointly mount a legal challenge. So some hope that at least there may be a delay in implementation.

That is good news. I know both Sutton and Croydon have objected and said they won’t support.

Good to see the Prime Minister slate the Mayor in Parliament yesterday over this. Interestingly Labour didn't come back with a counter arguement. It would be nice to see Labour tell the Mayor to get back in his box before he loses them votes.

I don't think labour are too concerned about losing votes at the moment. Oops, I strayed into a political discussion :smiley_1140:

But more importantly, is the Racecar ULEZ exempt? 😉

Its not just Islington , loads of London Boroughs do it , extra 50% per hour if Diesel .. that equates to £14 ish per hour to park on the street
