Leak down test tool

Recommended Posts

Hi

looking at buying a leak down test tool, they start at £20 to £200 for a snap on version, is it worth spending that kind of money, what is everyone using.

thanks

I have a Snap-On one but I don't think you need to spend a fortune on one, unless you are planning on using it a lot.

but Snap-On is tool porn

The reason I have Snap-On is, as you said, but mainly because I got it second hand for very handy money.  :D

If you get one with an adapter that screws on to account for different spark plug threads do loctite it in place before use.

Years ago I did a leakdown test on my 993tt and just about cacked myself when the adapter stayed in the plug threads when I removed the rest of the tester. At first I thought it would be engine out to remove the adapter but I managed to construct a removal tool using a bolt extractor, a tap wrench and a 1/4 drive extension to remove the adapter.
