I saw a modified car years ago which had the reflector panel replaced by one with large holes and thought it looked right, something Porsche might have done back in the day to release heat (maybe).  I’ve not found a factory car with one but there are a few cars in the States with similar.

I found an R Gruppe guy (Erik Lind) with a Porsche business called Sport Purpose Garage who makes something similar (https://porschepunx.bigcartel.com/product/speedholes)but then found it is a flat panel that is screwed into the rear somehow.  It wasn’t quite what I was looking for, I wanted a curved panel but couldn’t find one. I spoke to the bodywork guy at Bomber County Speedshop and asked if he thought he could make one.  He thought so.  I bought a broken reflector from IB and repaired it using fibreglass to act as a representative shape for the new one.  It came out really well.

Anyway, Sam has made good progress on the prototype and is about to make the holes.  The big challenge is that he has made a lovely curved panel into which he will cut seven 50mm holes and then needs to use a dimple die to make it look right but it could have a threepennybit effect as the dimple die flattens the area around the hole.  I will keep you updated on progress.

Nice idea. Gives me a thought about doing an IB run up around Bomber County one day this summer.

Do you guys do Cars and Coffee meets or anything?

That guy who does the rear lid grilles with all the fancy patterns makes the reflector panels as well I’m reasonably sure. Can’t remember his name.

If you’re thinking of Flo at Spades Customs I think he’s packed it all in. 😳

That’s the one. Really, that’s a shame, he did good work, I wonder why.

I’m not 100% sure but I think there were a few personal issues, business name change etc. and then his dad passed away.

Really like that rear panel, looks great 👍

I think so too, let’s see if it’s feasible to make it in steel.

It should be...

If not, give it to TB, he'd smash it out in between pub quiz questions

Only cost you a couple of cream buns

I really like that, I've just finished the metalwork on another project and really tempted to have a go at something similar.

Hi John, thank you.  Bomber County seems to be winding down sadly, so no cars and coffee.  There are other options though and some great roads in the area.

There is an annual bomber county run in the summer that the 924oc crowd organise which I did a few years ago - it was great!

Some progress on the dimple dies after a couple of false starts.  A minor alignment issue with the holes but this is prototype and can still be used to mock up all of the other aspects

No no, Gary, have Baldrick dig the trench and then visit from HQ to inspect it ;)

You civilians, no idea!

Meanwhile, back on topic.  We are ready for a test fit, which is a shame as I’m heading off to Spa for the WEC 6hrs shortly.
