Hi all

although my 76 2.7s, now backdated 911 is almost complete, well I thought it was !

my engine went to my engine builder for a full rebuild a while ago. Some time later after the crankshaft being checked and found in really good shape it  just required polishing of the journals, new standard shells fitted and on putting the casings together and torquing up the crankshaft was binding up.

even putting the old shells back in to test it binded up ??

it appears the casing are warped and are in need of line boring. A suitable bearing has been found.

can’t understand the cases warped now as they have just been washed and the crank not messed with. Engine guy hasn’t come across this and he’s built many 911s

has anyone experienced this line boring and as yet I don’t have a cost. I’m in Kent UK

Any input appreciated

I used Fiennes in the cotswolds for my crank, i believe they took over Rob Walker Engineering who were highly regarded for Porsche work.

For me, they were excellent, correct price and great service.

If you can, visit there facility its super interesting, they're restoring vintage Lagondas and old timer Rolls,

Frank Martin is great to deal with, i highly recommend.

Further north i'm using The Headshop in Warrington, recommended by great gearbox man!

Job not done yet but they are very easy to deal with and the quoted price for some headwork is very reasonable.
