Best oil.

Hello,

My lovely 3.2 had been in storage for a few years so will be waking it up next month.

Simple question, what engine oil do you recommend?

The car is not used very often if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance.

I've only ever used Mobil 1 0W/40. You could go for a 15W as an option, my engine runs perfectly fine on 0W hence I've stuck to it. Personally I recommend a fully synthetic oil. Other choices are available, Millers do a good oil. You could also opt to buy the classic oil from your OPC.

I normally spend about £120 for the oil as a guide.

Everyone will tell you their oil is the best, it's the nature of an oil thread. So I might as well give you a 'different' view to above....Valvoline VR1 which is mineral and 20w50.   Engine hasn't gone bang yet - but don't want to tempt fate as just about to roll off ferry for an Alp trip.

FYI, oil has been a hotly debated subject for some years!

Millers oil are great - would suggest you look them up . You can also have talk with their tech department.

whatever you choose,  the ZDDP content is important ( IIRC it protects the valves). So look for a content around 1200 - it can go up to c.1800 which is too much.  The content has been reduced over the years to suit modern day cars - maybe 800 or lower?

For me , I use Millers 10w/40 Nanodrive.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I like Millers and have used it before. Seems like I need to buy 10L of that or VR1.

While I’ve got you, any recommendations for a place to service my 3.2 on the Herts/Essex boarder area? I normally go to Chelsea Carrera in High Wycombe (they did my top end rebuild a few years ago), but that’s a bit far.

Recommended by my Range Rover specialist as a marvellous injector cleaner - just stick in a 1 litre bottle next time you fill with diesel- it works!!
