Reading the Bentley manual it says to drop the engine 75mm to remove the engine oil cooler, is it possible to change the O ring without doing this.

thanks

Hi Ivam the main reason is the picture below, although after some reading today I'm not so sure and am thinking of dropping the engine

thanks

There’s quite a lot of old oil leak muck around there.  It might be worth giving the area a good clean and then driving it to see where the fresh oil is coming from

I agree, the cooler looks reasonably dry (rad type fins)

you should start with triangle of death alias oil pres.switch oil thermostat o ring and oil breather cover on top of the engine..

I had a similar thing - the oil cooler covered in oil.
the advice above is good - my leak was cured by replacing the ‘triangle of death’ seals…. And it’s not that bad a job.
Be careful cleaning the oil filter - be careful that you don’t damage the fins with any excessively high pressure water.

As above, most likely the oil pressure sender on top of the engine.  Surprising how much oil they can leak.

Also replace your breather hoses if they're cracked/wet.

All can be done without too much effort or cost.

Ok thanks everyone, I'll do those 3 first from the top and go for a drive.

I followed a link from here to pelican where someone recommended sealing the sender with JB weld, is that something I should do, someone else talked about a 22mm crowsfoot to fit the switch is it worth my while getting one.

thanks

I usually do not put anything on the oil pres.switch but in nawaday you never know who makes them ,so why not..(for myself i have new old stock )For the switch it is 24 mm socket no need crowfoot at all..

It's not usually the seal between the case and sender, it's the plastic centre part of the sender that splits and leaks.  Just clean the area, remove and replace, simple! No need for JB weld, our friends in the US seem to love fixing things with that along with gaffer tape.

I've got chunky hands and arms and don't recall it being particularly awkward to replace.  I maybe had the air box off as I was replacing the breather hoses at the same time.

I'm replacing the oil breather housing cover gasket and realised I havnt a O ring for what I believe is a temp switch, is this likely to leak
