I drained the sump a couple of weeks ago,

i was expecting to put 2 litres back, but I just put a new sump plug gasket on and a lot more oil came out, any suggestions how I much I put in. Do I have to prime the sump by turning the car over before I attempt a start

Thanks

The engine sump is the scavenging side of the system, the oil tank is the feed side. Oil drains from the tank through the oil pump and into the sump on standing.

Put less than you think you lost back in the tank and warm the car up to full temp and check the level in the tank (with the engine running of course) and go from there.
