Hi everyone

I’m thinking about selling my 85 coupe, I’ve owned car for about 7 years now and only drove about 50 mile in it since full rebuild restoration, it’s guards red with black half leather pinstripe trim, with fsh and a folder full of paperwork from first owner and various owners over the years, it’s actually in Peter Morgan book original 911, the car doesn’t have any rust whatsoever sits on brand new wheels and tyres, I have a whale tail and front chin spoiler also but not fitted.

needs tops of doors touching up with the black paint as few marks on them, the car is in near mint condition I would say.

value any thoughts would be appreciated,

had engine work done by specialists up here in Newcastle area all mechanically sound

only reason I’m thinking of selling is just purely down to lack of time to drive it, which I’m just not getting enough spare time

so any advice on price would be appreciated and where is best to sell if I decide to go ahead with a sale, car is all hpi  clear and I have all the old mot’s and car has I think off the top of my head without looking is 168k

thanks

Lack of time is not a real thing. There are probably lots of journeys you do where you could take the 911, to work, to the shops, to family, weekend trips to stately homes, the beach, the woods for a Sunday afternoon walk.

I agree with Phil. Try using it a bit more now the sun has finally made an appearance and see how you like it.... You may fall in love again, and if you don't there will be plenty of summer left in which to sell.

First of all I would get any little cosmetic or other niggles attended to prior to sale as not doing so will often disproportionately affect the price you can achieve.

You can opt for a private sale with a classified ad, an online auction on something like Car & Classic or Collecting Cars, a conventional auction, sale or return with a dealer or a straight sale to a dealer.

I would probably opt for the online auction route with the car presented at its very best (including scans of the documentation / underside etc.) as I've had bad experiences with dealers and conventional auction sales.

In addition, I would put a few more miles on the car - buyers may think 50 miles since restoration could mean there are some issues from the rebuild / restoration yet to rear their head.

Best of luck!

I have had the same thoughts about selling for about 5 years.

If you can hang on, now is not the best time to sell a classic 911. Prices are a bit soft and stuff seems to move slowly.

Be prepared for a random assortment of wheel kickers and general time wasters.

The only other advice I can offer:

Once you get out of a classic 911, it's very difficult to get back in.

There are many past owners that sold cars 12 or so years back and now wish to get back into 911's but can't stomach the price rise.

I don't think you should sell, you should drive it. However, contrary to the above I don't miss my 911. Once you are out you realise how much else there is available for the same or less money that is just as much if not more fun. I like my son's Golf and my BMW more than the 911 for different reasons. I wonder if others feel the same. @longman ?

@Ian Comerford loves his 911, uses it a lot but also has something else as do many on here.

Since you asked about value, it's probably £60k as its been fully restored.

Thanks everyone for replies, I often think would a 997 be better for me as having 2 young kids 8 and 3  it maybe more family friendly for weekend drive outs, most of the time I spend in the vw t6 out and about on a weekend or greenlaning in the old defender, decisions to make, either I’m not in any hurry if I decide to sell as not waiting on the money for any other toys

A 997 doesn’t have any more room inside than the 3.2. Both my lads happily travelled in the back up to the point that they physically couldn’t get in. As others have said on here, use it create family memories with it and cherish it.

Photo below shows my youngest going to his school prom with 2 of his mates (I was the designated driver 😇)

I agree with @benqv you need to put a few miles on the car before posting it for sale, 1k should do the trick.

True that you have a couple of young ones but they grow faster than you think and will be teenagers before you know it besides as @njpcarrera32 said you won't get any more room in a 997 or even 991.

Thought about selling mine on a few occasions over the years, however; when I do get chance to use it, I couldn't bring myself to part with it, there's just something about them that just keeps you hanging in there!

What ever you decide, good luck.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone think I need to stop being lazy and get out and make more time and drive the car, love the car just think sometimes it’s a waste just sat in the garage, but it’s great to know it’s there
