I noticed some corrosion (rust) on my ducktail (mine has the metal frame) bubbling through the paintwork.

Hopefully its repairable if not what is the current consensus on the best source of a new Ducktail

Early RS were on aluminium frames, later were on steel. Some have been recreated by peeling the lid from a standard engine cover and binding a duck to the frame.

The late Chris Flavel made mine using a regular G Series steel frame and a '73 RS copy duck.

The recreated items don't tend to rust as they are on e+coated frames.

It could be an '74 Carrera option duck, a genuine RS or just a botched recreation.

Can't be 'that' bad, Shirley ? 🤷‍♂️

The metal is rusting through the fiberglass right in the corner, you need to probably break the fame out to fix and treat it, then bond it together again, unless a DIY job cheaper to get a new one

Thx Nigella, will check that one out 😁

From research and the recommendations for a new ducktail are:

The first from Club Autosports at £375 plus VAT

The second is from EB Motorsport, this one recommended by Sports Wagen who are the premier 356 and early 911 body shop.
This one is £620 plus VAT.
A fairly big price difference and I'd assume both will need some work to fit properly

Anyone purchased from either of these guys before and can comment on their products?

What are you going to do with it Gary, mount it on the wall 🙄

I bought an EB Motorpsort one for my car whilst it was in Sportwagen for bodywork and paint.  Bruce said it was one of the better ones that he had seen but there are better ones out there.  I think it depends upon your budget.  Worth a search on Pelican as there are a few US options and one good one from Germany from recollection.

Thx Ina,

If the EB one passed yours and Sportswagens test, then that's be good enough for me

My EB Ducktail arrived. Its very well made, considerably more rigid than my existing one while also being lighter. I did a trial fit and lossely bolted it up and it already fits better than my current one although will be fettled during paintwork to get it even better. Well worth the money (and the wait).

My painter wasnt hugely impressed with it on first glance and said its no better than others he has seen (i.e fitment not great). He has already identified that a lot of material needs to be removed from the top.

Thx Les, good to know, I'll tell the coachworks folks what they'll be up against
