Hi all

My newly restored 1976 2.7s has had a full engine rebuild, the engine builder set the timing and it runs ok.

theres a noise of the tappets which he says is ok , do 500 miles and then adjust tappets , change oil etc

without going into detail the engine builder is not my favourite and I asked a Porsche repair place and he said that’s ok ,better loose than tight.

fair enough I understand that and have adjusted many tappets but never Porsche ones.

does it make sense or should I do them now 160 miles since build

I was told to do 500 miles after a full rebuild and then do an oil change and adjust tappets, mine was tappety too. Took 3 years to do the 500 miles though!

Agree. 500 miles or thereabouts then tappets, re-torque heads, change oil/filter and check for any leaks. Ready for fun!

Ok thanks

ill start adding on the miles , I reckon 3 weeks to reach the 500 but it’s tough finding someone to do the tappets , there few and far between and those that can do them are so busy

cheers

Where do you live? Perhaps somebody here can recommend somebody suitable to do the job.
