Hi all

yesterday  I took my 2.7s 911 in for oil change, valve adjustment after its initial 300 miles after a full engine rebuild

Well when the oil was drained a piston oil cooling jet was in lying in the cases.

initially it appears it’s fallen out of the cases and bearing in mind these are brand new magnesium cases direct from Porsche it’s a disaster and seems now it’s an engine strip down. I’m assuming these jets are pressed into the cases and edges peened over to avoid this issue as were my old cases

the Porsche agent is sending the info to Porsche who I’m hoping will see this manufacturing fault as a warranty and do what required to address the issue. Who knows what if any additional damaged has been caused through lack of oil under the pistons

No one Porsche person I  have spoken to has ever experienced this .

comments welcome

Just to add 2.5 years of full vehicle restoration and this happens at the end to say the least  has dampened my spirit to live ☹️

Very disappointing for you, hopefully Porsche will do the right thing and cover your costs. It sounds like a manufacturing issue. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

The new cooling jets from Porsche are rubbish! The material of the body isn’t formed over the end of the jet correctly allowing over time the internals of the jet to fly out. I would change all the jets once apart for some others.

Good news after a while.

after the engine issues above it was found that oil cooling jet on no. 4 had come out,

after a complete engine strip down by Porsche Tonbridge they identified the fault and completely checked to see if any damage occurred, fortunately no damage the jet had been inserted and 1 peened mark done , my old engine was peened over 3 times. The Porsche manual says there should be 3.

surprisingly no engine damage at all

Currently awaiting if Porsche will supply new cases or repair the existing which can be done.

the engine removal, strip repair and rebuild will be carried out free of charge under warranty and labour guaranteed I am told.

ill keep you informed

Well here’s an updated on my engine warranty and it’s not good news.

after 4-5 months of the engine out, stripped and defective oil jets ( whatever you wish to call them )  found faulty it’s been back and forth with my Porsche dealer and Porsche GB and Germany

after Germany wanting to fit new jets in with glue only 🤔 which failed dismally new cases were agreed by porsche

BUT because of these issues , which mine can’t be the only case , they can’t supply new cases for a minimum of 8 months from now . That’s over a year from when Porsche took my car in.

my Porsche dealership has been really good but of course Germany have the final say. My dealership and myself have complained to Germany and others and I’m now at the stage of finding out the contact details of someone in authority to complain about.

i have since been informed by others that these cases are porous, so perhaps there’s more to this than we thought

where to go ? Well nowhere in my cay 😪

I have spoken to a respectable Porsche restoration company in the uk and he said he can have my original cases after inspection bore aligned and restored but of course if this were possible I would need to pay him to fully rebuild my engine after I’ve already had it rebuilt

perhaps if this is an option Porsche might pay all his costs

ill suggest this option to Porsche but don’t hold out much hope for this

This maybe a quicker solution but will this respectable company also guarantee their work, Porsche will  not cover a third party.

No chance of that Im afraid
