Merida went to the body shop two weeks ago for some minor rust repairs and things have escalated quickly - as they sometimes do - and we are having a lot more work done.

As part of this the sill covers came off ( the sills are fine , the torsion bar covers are not ) and I need to replace the hardware that attaches them to the body.  I can see in

IMG_7593.thumb.jpeg.b7b51add07dec1d859f75ad0e04735ef.jpeg the diagram that there is a rubber sleeve and bolt( 14 and 16 )  , but what do they attach to on the body side?

Cheers!

Those are welded on both sides but IIRC, the spacers/standoffs are only needed on the oil pipe side

Rivnuted mine too, used longer bolts and a nylon spacer to match the height of factory brackets.  Only thing you need to be aware of is that if you remove them in the future, due to their location/exposure, the bolts can seize into the rivnut and then the whole thing spins.  Maybe less of problem if you can install the square/hex bodied rivnut rather than the serrated ones like I did.

Anti-seize compound is your friend on this one

Heat from the oils line and heater channels didn't help, the copper slip just melt away.  Wasn't a big issue as I don't need the mounting points in the cars current format.

I used nylon nuts on the bumper bellows and infill panels.  Worked a treat

Nylon bolts are OK, but usually heads usually snap off when unfastening if they're slightly stiff.

Can one of you gents please post  a coupe of photos of what it looks like with the rivnuts?

Here you go. First picture is what they should be like with the brackets. Two of mine had rotted on the offside so I rivnutted them about 10 years ago. While its worked fine, while my car is being painted I am having these two replaced back to standard.

Thanks.  I’d like to see a pic with the covers on, the spacers and bolts of you happen to have one.

Sorry not spacer photos, but the second time I did the mounts for the oil lines I used these weld in captive nuts.  If it's pre paint then I reckon these are much better than rivnuts.

Cool

my brackets are gone and the car is painted so I’ll make a hybrid of those with the stainless rivnuts and longer spacers
