Hello,

After almost 20 years of ownership but pitiful lack of use in recent years I have come to the decision to sell my 1989 3.2 Targa.

It's been a long time since I sold a car. Any thoughts on the best way to sell it or what to avoid. Has anyone used Collecting Cars or similar with satisfaction?

Thanks

Tim

Advertise it as an SC ;) :P

Why Phil... that would knock at least 10k off the value :)

Our Sheriff may know people that may be interested and the where to place the car, so worth dropping him a line

First place to start is here and DDK, I'd also be tempted with a Facebook Marketplace ad (I've sold 3 cars on FB with no bother at all, modern stuff though).  Decent photos, plenty of info and price it right and I'm sure if fly.  Maybe have John (IB site owner) do an appraisal on it for buyer confidence?

I sure there are decent dealers out there, but they'll want their cut and I'd struggle trusting any of them.

First thing get it out and used a bit to make sure its all working as it should be then a mega clean in and out. Careful selection of where you advertise it.

SOR is not without additional risk.

I wouldn't do that, too many horror stories of dealers going bust and cars disappearing.Im sure there are reputable and reliable dealers but personally I simply wouldn't hand my car over.

I have considered selling a couple of times, definitely no SOR. Perhaps an auction site like Collecting Cars. Or Pistonheads, Autotrader, Car and Classic, Facebook?

I have always had the best results with Car and Classic and it is free to list. I find you get proper knowledgable buyers on there as it is specialised rather than paying for eBay/autotrader chancers.
I also have had good success with Pistonheads but I only use that as since I am a long term member I get free ads.

Friend just sold the gold 84 3.2 Carrera I sold him a couple of years ago with Paul Stephens on SOR. They put the ad out as coming soon and it sold before the price was listed. Decent money too. They charge quite a bit though. From memory its £6K plus VAT.

I'm looking at selling a couple of cars but I've had little luck on FB groups and SOR (I tried Paddlup last year before they tanked but luckily got my cars back without much bother). It's a job to know where really. I've an early 912 and Big Blue to sell.
