Expansion Tank and Washer Bottle Solutions

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

mine is a 1976 912E and has the fuel expansion tank and huge washer reservoir under the front left wing. I really don't need a water reservoir tank that big and wondering if anyone has found a simple solution that fits under the bonnet in and around the battery area that fits neatly. Also at the same time thinking it would be nice to remove the fuel expansion tank, anyone done anything with this?

Thanks

Jonny

If you have time do a search on here as several of us have done this over the last 20 years or so.  The easy answer comes from Porsche which is to fit a small tank they made and which fits into the area just to the rear of the left hand strut top. I can’t recall the name of the tank it might be the intensive wash system. Anyway, a simple inexpensive and efficient option that loose a chunk of weight and looks factory, which it is of course.

thanks Ian, I did try a search, but it brings back so many options that may not be suitable for a 1976 model I thought it better to ask someone who has done it. Will look up the intensive washer option and see what come back. Thanks again

I fitted the intensive tank for my headlight washers & used Jonny’s (ClassicRetrofit) kit to fit a Boxster washer tank behind the front wheel

Pretty sure my brake fliud reservoir is where the intensive washer would go, need to check, but I don't think thats an option. Saw Jonnys solution, but I was thinking something inside the bonnet area, rather than outside. I may just look for a random washer bottle that fits the space.

As for the expansion tank, many have fitted a one-way valve to the tube to it and deleted the tank. Search for SilverWT's (Mark) solution involving a simple one way valve.

I did this also. It’s a nice neat solution. I think my valve came from Demon Tweeks.
