Option 474

Hi.

my 3.2 Carrera came with option no. 474 which I understand is ‘sports shock absorber’.  I am looking to replace the shock absorbers over the winter as the car sit slightly lower on drivers side and feels like replacements are required.  I am looking to replace like for like in keeping with the original spec.  Design 911 have suggested that to achieve this I need Bilstein shock absorbers using ‘suspensionkit42’ in search function on their website.

I have no reason to doubt this but wanted to double check this and seek any other recommended suppliers.

thanks

chris

Don’t believe a word you see or hear from Design 911, they will sell you anything and when it turns up it’s often wrong.

If you want sound advice speak to Matt at @Type911

What year is your car as M474 cars from 1986 had Boge Sports shocks, only available from OPC's at £222+ each

OK, so if you want to keep it factory spec its down to your local OPC!

Ok thanks

that has made be think of what non-standard options are available.  Will need to do some research.

I would also have a good look around your suspension in case something else has caused your ride height to change

And I second and third what Phill says about Design 911…..

Thanks - it has previously been suggested that this is due to the shocks but will get this looked at again to make sure.

If you dont mind not keeping it 100% standard I would go Bilstein Standard Sport

If your car is sitting slightly lower old one side then I think it's unlikely to be the shock absorbers. The dampers are there to control the dynamic movement of the car when moving.

It's therefore likely to be a suspension set up issue. The torsion bars (springs) will determine the static ride height along with whatever adjustments have been set.

I second that!

Thirded! And it's easy enough to raise the car up, remove the lower shock bolts, put the car back on the ground and roll it back and forth to settle the suspension and see where the ride height ends up.

My advice would be to get in touch with Center Gravity in Atherstone. They can assess the car and recommend a way forward. They also have an in-car shock tester which can confirm that the shocks need replacing. Or not. They're not cheap but they are very, very good and won't recommend replacing anything that doesn't need replacing so are cost-effective in that sense. They won't simply say "oh, your car's X years/miles old so needs a full suspension refresh".
