I am considering this, plus removal of jacking point and any welding/filling of holes.

Can anyone post any pics up of their cars with this?

I’m trying to see how OEM it can look or if it looks unbalanced with the front and rear IB’s.

Thanks!

Jonny (ClassicRetrofit) has removed the modesty oversills on his '82 SC - have a search on his CRF YouTube channel

I think it works if you've backdated it, or if its still IB then has no chin spoiler and a flat lid.   Otherwise just looks a little odd from the side profile.

It does look great but don’t forget that in real life (not a photo) you can see all the pipes and other stuff which isn’t pretty. Removing the jacking points and welding up holes etc is definitely the way forward. I would even go as far as re-routing the oil pipes through the car so they can’t be seen. I looked into this and it perfectly feasible, in fact it’s the only option in my view. The covers are there for a reason 🙂

You know that IC 1 removed the sill covers to distract your attention from those horrible trailer lights he has on the back? 😀

No cills on mine either, took them off about 7yrs ago. Without them you can keep an easier eye on any rot  😉 ..plus, weight saving :)

Other opinions are of course available……

We still love you TB, even when you are angry with the World…….

Good on you gt two, …..deleting cill covers to my mind is the same as drilling out engine cover / luggage compartment hinges for lightness, bloody hell….get a grip! ….it’s a bit like that criticism of ‘Turbo lag’, we are talking of road cars here, a compromise between out & out track cars and a fulfilling driving experience on our appalling roads! For the boy racers with drilled out hinges and no lunch in their bellies, carry on pretending that you are on the limit on this demanding circuit……one more drilled out hole will put you in the same fold as Lewis!

Yeah, looks crap without the covers...

FWIW, you have to lose the chin spoiler to get 'the look' and have the ride height spot on.

Erm… are you referring to me @David Gander

Nope….just a general beef, ‘Just add lightness’ as the great late Colin Chapman said. No harm in doing it for personal taste, but to add .001 seconds to the performance? Every bit helps as the monkey said when peeing into the deep blue sea, but really! Biggest weight saving would be to run a one litre fuel tank and have a personal body-build like a slim F1 driver! Unfortunately I’m six foot two and fat (and old)! Bolt a turbo on and be done with it!

That's not the point for me, agility and dynamics of handling are the aim.

In my experience/opinion, the way an IB drives is greatly enhance, even with modest weight reduction.

I agree with you Mark, the difference in handling, braking, performance between a standard car and something at this weight is massive.

My car will be weighed again this week and I think it will be approximately 950kg which considering it looks pretty OEM is good.

I once drove across town with no front or rear bumpers and just that modest reduction in weight had an eye opening effect on the handling - you wouldn't think it would make so much difference!

haha I bet that looked funny.

I have lightweight bumper blades to go on mine also, I think about 6kg per end of the car plus the lighter impact tubes another 5kg in total I think.

And it's weight at the extremities of the car = a very good place to lose some!
