I’m considering buying an early G series I’ve seen.

The car is fair condition, was imported 10 years ago from the USA.
No receipts for any of the “big” jobs, engine rebuild gearbox etc. just some basic servicing and maintenance.

It’s a running driving car but my head is telling me not to even consider buying it, I remember 25 years ago all the buying guides would say never buy a 2.7 that hadn’t been rebuilt 😅 but my heart says it’s a lovely old thing and needs saving 🤔

Any advice appreciated from 2.7 owners please 🙏

Not a 2.7 owner but; Pictures? What evidence do you have of those 'big' jobs? If the price is right then none of that matters much anyway. Rust is No.1 consideration.

I'll try to post some pictures, as I say in the first post NO evidence of any "big" jobs being done.

Was owned by a forum member at one point though.

That’s a good video, I’d be happy with something like that 😅

Ian Tyrell has exotica as part of his daily life and never had much exposure to Porsche.  The 2.7 vid was interested because if you watch his face as he gets into the drive of the car he really warms to it and gets the point.  I don’t think you will be disappointed once you get it sorted

I’ve owned a ‘73 2.4 T/E a 3.2 Carrera and an SC previously so no doubt I’d enjoy it!
Just also aware of the potential pitfalls and sold the SC last year and bought a more modern Porsche but I think I’ve realised I like older cars better, and that’s not necessarily restricted to Porsche.

I noticed on one of the pictures there is what looks like a points condenser ( silver can above distributor ) mounted on the fan housing.  That has no place on any car running CDI.  If it is 'in circuit' with the points, it will mess up the timing on the engine, causing a lag in the advance.  It the car feels slow, first thing I would do is remove that and redo the timing.

No, means someone looked after the oil leaks!
