I've not been on here for a long time but had a bit of bad news last month when I was informed that I had a brain tumour which was operated on within a few days - thank you NHS Scotland Greater Glasgow

I am doing well but have a long period of radio- & chemo-therapy ahead.

The upshot is that I will not be allowed to drive for at least a year - possibly much longer.

I have a very nice 1982 SC sitting in my shed and this seems like the right place to make it's availability known to people who appreciate such things.

Regards

Alastair

Sorry to hear your news Alastair, here's to a successful outcome.  To be clear, does this mean you may be selling your car or offering for free road trips and similar......?  There are people looking for IBs at the moment

Ian

Not sure what to do Ian.

Don't really want to take on the hassle of selling right at the moment due to tyre-kickers and low-ballers, but that might come later.

Car really doesn't need much doing for use - just rear screen re-fitting due to routing of heating element wiring. Got a new seal and inserts due to a couple of specialist goons (recommended to me by a specialist) making a complete pig's ear of it a couple of years ago.

Need to re-do valve clearances and fit the below as I had one shaft walk a few years ago:

Rocker Shaft Lock Set – TurboKraft

Just can't work up the energy and motivation to get on with it at the moment - a side effect of the condition and the treatment regime.

My hopefully helpful suggestion would be to leave her tucked up in the shed until you're better and just look forward to when you can jump back into the driving seat. Bob

+1 on that, tuck it up for now, will be great to look forward to.

If its specialists- the only real  mechanic would recommend is Peter McAnna, of Motortune  in Shotts, or for body work Steve Walker in Bathgate.

Get well soon Alastair, your health and well being need to take priority, The IB can wait, its safe and protected tucked away and as mentioned above used as a focus on your recovery aim.

Might just insure it for Mrs P to drive, then she can take me wherever it needs to go.

Difficult to get into Motortune as I recall Angus.

Need to find someone to do rear screen fitting though.

Sending best wishes Alastair. I hope you can hold on to the car for a bit and see how you feel in a few weeks.

I bought my first SC down in France from a chap who had been medically retired from the Met Police through epilepsy. He did not want to sell and insured his wife on the car. She did not get on with it and it came to me. I always felt she felt bad about that. It is a hard decision to take.

Sending best wishes Alastair. It’ll be there when you’re through and none the worse for it. Personally, I think it’s best not to change every thing up when you have things of this kind to deal with. It’s an old friend.

keep safe.

Get well soon Alastair.  Just mothball the car and when you are recovered, and it comes back out @Ian Comerford can organise a drive to Scotland and we can all do the N500 in convoy. 👌

I think I’m free that weekend…😀

You are all right, of course.

No need to take any hasty action.

just completed radio-therapy session #9/30 yesterday so 30% through. Four and a bit more five day weeks and it'll be done and the fatigue will start to wear off and I can get my arrrr5e into gear.

Maybe insure my wife and one of my pals to use it and I can be a passenger with my eyes tight shut.

ps There are loads of much better roads in Scotland than the NC500

Sshh - keep that under your hat or the whole place will become like the NC500 😉

Alastair, really sorry to hear about your health battle

Stay strong, car doesn't need to go anywhere, just focus on mending, it will be there when you're ready to enjoy it again

Best bit of advice I was given which is a bit obvious but I really followed was....

If you're tired, you're not mending, so take it easy!

Hope all works out fine🤞🤞🤞

have you got a member of your family that you can pass it onto in the interim?

Ive got to an age where I’m having to consider what to do with my ‘old’ cars -  but my two sons will fight over who has my 3.2!!

Good luck and keep strong and positive 👍🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞👍

Wishing you a speedy recovery Alastair,   must have been quite a shock for you.

Have just seen this post Alastair, most of us are now getting to the stage in life that not so nice things happen (as my Wife and I are now going through): wishing you as very speedy recovery and hopefully an active future….with the SC! Park it up for now and concentrate on your health and the family, hopefully the future will pan out more clearly as time goes in.

Prayers and hope with you Mate,

Please call if there is anything that I can help with,

Fond regards, David.
