Not posted on here before but been a member for a while. Had my 1989 3.2 for nearly 8 years now and loved every minute and drive of it. Have done several euorpean trips and do Le Mans most years too; mostly used for touring and days out.

Not a new owner (yet) but hoping to be, can I just say that white coupe looks lovely...in fact they all look great.

Coupe is out of reach for me but hoping a targa is within reach, looks forward to hopefully being able to post a pic on this thread in the near future. :)

So had the car about a month now, and loving the ownership experience so far. As are my two girls! Even managed a school pickup last week picking up my nephew and daughter. Here's hoping to many years of ownership!

Great tactical move getting kids involved! The look of delight/excitement on their faces means it's going to be a much loved "family" car!

I did exactly the same......and now the kids (and the wife, because of the kids) would never countenance selling the car for whatever reason! Of course this doesn't apply for a new special car or "upgrade" which would be enthusiastically greeted  but hopefully prevents any future "selling" pressure.....

Hi Magnum, yes exactly...its all tactical, the kids now ask to go everywhere in the 'White car'. My wife really gets little say. She does however know it has great road presence and looks awesome..she just won't openly admit it with me in the room :P

bit cooler here in the UK compared with Cape Town no doubt but we get some dry winter days where i've been enjoying the drive very much!

Hi all,

Pretty sure my story is much the same as most others in that I never thought I'd be able to own such an iconic car. However I purchased my 1986 3.2 Coupe in Feb 2015 after a few years in a couple of Caterhams.

I wasn't really comfortable with all the ins & outs of air cooled 911s but was reasonably confident that I'd be able to spot a complete basket case. The chase is half the fun after all isn't it? So I did the miles & viewed a few cars until in the end I bought this one from David at Canems. I didn't know him at the time but you get a feeling for a genuine chap & the car was the best I'd seen up until then. Deal done. :D

It came to light in its first service that it's actually a really solid example with no work having been done underneath (:woohoo:)

To date, I've fitted the correct wheels (it was sitting on replica Cup 1s when I bought it), put it back on it's original number plate & replaced various bits of trim that I've managed to find on Fleabay. The blue interior means that these parts are hard to come by but I'm in no rush. I also decided to have it all cleaned up & protected underneath using all the factory standard materials, however that pretty much turned into a full respray (don't you just love it when your painter has the eye to see every minute blemish??)!!! So I was without it for the whole of this summer & now I don't have a pot in which I could take a waz, however I still say I love it & would have to be seriously skint to get rid of it.

I know it's never going to be concourse & don't want it to be. I bought it to drive, & it's an on going thing to tickle it here & there, & keep it as best as I can.

Best thing I ever did.

Cheers,

Fleety.

No Jevvy, Prussian Blue with a 915 & it does have a sunroof. Sorry to disappoint!!

Welcome Fleety. If you live in Bucks, and you drive a prussian blue car with a 915 and a sunroof then you have pretty good taste as far as I'm concerned ;)

Next move is to get rid of that dangly fog light thing :D

Hi here is my Targa which I have owned a couple of years. It was bought with no history from a dealer who had acquired it from a chap who needed the money quick before moving abroad!

I have done quite a bit of body work including behind the battery and in front of the headlight on drives side. Pretty pleased with all my own handy work, including the painting. it also had later 17inch cup wheels with very old tyres when I got it but I have replaced these with some Fuchs copies.

Mechanical it seems ok but does drop oil from the tubes so that is for this winter. It's got a stainless exhaust with no heat exchangers so looking to go back to original having sourced all the bits off e bay, I do like a heater. I know my way round cars so will be doing it all my self.

Its spent most of its recent life in Ashford Kent and was serviced at Chilham sports cars, they cannot help with much history although recognised the car. The exhaust was done by a exhaust specialist in Ashford area.

Does anyone recognise the car and can add any history?

Thanks Graham

Just posted on the general Impact Bumping thread but thought I'd say hello here as I have an 85 3.2 Carrera Targa which I've had since mid 2015.  Great forum and should have posted earlier but better late than never!

Thanks for the welcome!

This photo was taken during the first MOT in December 2017 following the engine rebuild. The car had been stored since 2006.

Sadly, I have very few (if any) photos from 1985 ... that's divorce for you. But I have the car :)
