You may remember we met a few years ago in Southam when I sold you a copy of Colin Mcrae Rally 5, you may have noticed I have a few copies of the new Colin Mcrae DiRT game in the for sale section ;)

Hi Rich, yes I do remember that, was good to meet you. Have to say was a bit disappointed with the game, it went straight on eBay :o Sorry mate!

We will hook up for a coffee in Leamington one day, I get up there regularly and the roads from here to there are favourites of mine.

Thanks-I've heard a lot about IB (all Good) and I'm looking forward to meeting up and meeting like minded enthusiasts who regard IB's as THE 911 derivative-NO QUESTION! :ani_clapping:

Well, I wouldn't say that. We do love the cars but not to exclusion of all others. Cheers Albert ;)

Hello everyone..

Just thought I would say hello and introduce myself. I am fairly new to the world of Porsche and my first 911 was a new 997 2s in guards red with black wheels purchased last spring. I have always had a soft spot for older cars and I also run a very special 1966 MK2 Jaguar M.O.D. in British racing green. I am maybe having to sell the Jaguar to make room for my latest addition, a really nice 3.2 g50 in guards red with the linen interior. The car has almost a full serice history, and all but the first M.O.T. that makes the 56k miles all true and correct.

I have only owned the car for a couple of weeks and have already done 500 fun miles, I have got somewhat carried away with the Porsche thing, so much so I managed to run my 3.2 dry due to all the excitement!..Anyway at least I know that from brim full to totaly empty I get 391 miles to a tank!!

I am enjoying the two 911s and the difference is total, which is needless to say what I expected. The cars are at two ends of the spectrum and thats what I wanted, both highly enjoyable and very fine cars in their own ways.

I read a lot about this is better than that etc etc etc..but how can you compare cars at 20 years apart? Its impossible so I just enjoy them both for what they are.

Got the 3.2 booked in for a service early November themn I am going to get her in the garage and spend some time polishing/cleaning the wheel arches etc and draw up a plan for improvments/mods. I had the car checked out by John Holland at Unit 11 and he confirmed the car was a fine example having had about 4k spent on it at autofarm in 2003.

I may get all the running gear stripped and stoved and put some new shocks on for next spring, but apart from that I just want to enjoy the car.

Any help and advice always greatfully recieved and much appreiciated.

Thanks all and happy porking to you all! :mad jg:

Welcome to the forum! Can we have some piccies please? Also, if you add your location to your details we can se where you are. We often have regular meets in different areas etc....

The best mod I made was to fit a Steve Wong performance chip. Changes the way the car drives IMO! Ilm sure others will chime in with a much more extensive list. If you look at some of the threads regarding mods and upgrades you will quickly realise that the sky is the limit and that it is a very slippery slope.... ;)

Well the story goes a bit like this. Back in 1997, I had a 1986 Carrera Coupe Sport. Kept it for a couple of years, putting about 60K miles on it and never had moments trouble with it. Very impressive car and nearly as quick (and definitely more enjoyable) than my previous car- a Sierra Cosworth (chipped to 300bhp).

Back then, I’d been spending a lot of time and money putting a GT40 clone together- a GTD with all the right bits(Ford V8 302 etc.). Now, having run the GT40 for 9 years -very quick, but quite scary! - I decided, over the summer, to sell it. In early September, a guy came from France and bought it. It finally went yesterday and as I write, it’s being driven down the French Auto routes to its’ new owner in Marseilles.

So lots of cash - but what to spend it on?!! Thought about a Ferrari 348 or a Porsche 911. I’m not a fan of the later 964 (I test drove one and thought it was more like my old Sierra – a bit sterile). A decent Ferrari was probably gonna take most of the GT40 cash, and they seemed very thin on the ground, so I started looking at the ‘83-‘89 911s and began getting excited! I found a very nice looking car on eBay, but thought that buying a 911 on eBay can’t be right. Also, it was 200 miles away so I couldn’t even get to see it. The seller sent me some pics (see below), and told me his reserve price, so eventually, I decided to bid a fair price. Sure enough, I won the car – but obviously still had reservations about it being as good as described. A one-way rail ticket was purchased, on the basis that if the car didn’t match his glowing description, then I’d get another one-way ticket home! In fact the car turned out to be an absolute cracker - actually better in the flesh than in the photos. It’s a black, late 1987, Carrera Coupe Sport with linen colour leather interior. My old car had some minor rust, but this one has none. It is spotless inside, underside and outside and drives perfectly. Drove it home a steady 80 mph and got nearly 30 mpg from it !!

Other than a s/s exhaust, it is absolutely standard and the only thing I‘ve done to it is to change the steering wheel to a very nice Momo job – again picked up of eBay for £21!. It came complete with the correct Momo boss and a Porsche hornpush. I think the only reason I got it so cheap was that the seller wouldn’t post it, so no-one bid, but he was in Somerset and so was I. I’m quite surprised how much difference the Momo wheel has made to the overall driving pleasure of the car.

Hi Richard, nice story, car looking good, :ani_clapping: I bet the old heart was going on that journey to pick the car up.

Looks great Richard, well done.

Has the OSF wing been changed? An E plate should have the aerial integrated into the windscreen and not on the wing like yours :ani_nerd:

Welcome along though, saw/heard some nice gt40's at the NEC last weekend :ani_clapping:

Hello and well done for proving that you can still pick up a good car privately. However you are very lucky having bought such a great car without giving it a good look over first. Result!

Hi Shirish,

Yeah, I can't explain the wing aerial, as the screen has got an integrated aerial!

It could be that a previous owner was bit deaf because the car came with a ludicrously complex Pioneer radio/CD - mosfet driven, 200watts total! - and perhaps the intergrated aerial didn't meet his loony requirements. Anyway, it sounds great, so I'll live with it. Richard
