Thanks twinny,

It's actually moved on a bit since the last photos - started to weld some stuff back in - which feels good after a lot of cutting out

Heroic!

+1! Good skills Sladey - I can see you have been practising with the welder.

Hi Nige! Hope all is well with you. Nothing much to report on the car - still got it and carried on doing bits and pieces albeit nothing for quite a while. Even though I've been distracted by other motors and projects, I check in to the old Porsche forums every once in a while and it rekindles the love.

Thanks Chris

It's moving forward slower than I'd hoped for - mainly because of the extensive amount of fannying around at the front and back of the floor piece (weld/grind/weld/grind/weldd/grind etc)

Anyhow got some epoxy mastic on this week-end

You'd think so wouldn't you Andy! Apparently you have to do more than spray the outside to stop the rust from spreading. Little or nothing was done at the time and I assumed they'd applied some sort of protection but they hadn't. They are more used to dealing with modern cars with a full e-coated shell. Whilst it's annoying, I've had 6 years to get used to the idea and am looking forward to the feeling that it's been done properly.

Steve, I'm using a portamig 185. I've got nothing but praise for it. I turn it on and it works consistently every single time. I previously had a SIP migmate thing - I had to a fair bit of work to improve the wire feed etc. So a couple of years ago the portamig was a birthday present. They aren't cheap but worth every penny.

Wow top work Sladey! Very impressive work.

Who did you get the carbon bonnet from? One of those has been on my radar for a while, though silver told me they aren't much lighter (1kg?) than an fg one but twice the price! Is it because they are a better fit than fg?

Far more interesting thread than the values one ;)

Ha! yes I'm not much interested in values

I got the carbon bonnet from Nick at Early 911. It's a really good fit. If I'd wanted to run exposed carbon fibre it would have been good enough for that - quality item

From Nick:- "The standard steel bonnet is around 10 Kg, aluminium is 4.8 Kg and carbon is around 2.5 Kg"

Its VERY light

2.5kg!? That's a tasty weight saving! I thought the steel bonnets were 19kg? The CF bonnets from EB Motorsport were 5.5kg whilst their FG one was 6.5kg (from memory) hence me asking!

That and your sunroof delete should be an excellent reduction and very noticeable.

That's what I'm hoping - helped by the newly built engine

I went with 250 lb/ft in the end (I think it's lb/ft - it's been a while since I put them in). Elephant were recommending 300 lb/ft for their 'canyon carver' but they generally like things a bit stiff over there. I've plumped for the 250 as I'm trying to recreate the feel I had before. Going hard or softer is no big deal - probably £60-£70 in new springs and an hour (tops) to fit them.

Setting rear ride height is now a 5 minute job

I went for an RSR setup - I cant remember what rates they use. I have the invoice somewhere. But I agree, ride is such a breeze now.

I'd be interested to know when you get a chance

One man's firm is another man's soft. Can't believe I've just written that.

My previous stock torsion bar setup was just right for me - so I'm going to try and recreate that. Be interesting to know the RSR setup though
