First Martin, then Jevvy, followed by Tim and now me. Just like bloody lemmings. This puppy was picked up this afternoon and is destined for the SC:

levers004Medium.jpg

Not an immediate job though, need to source the conversion parts and want to enjoy the re-trimmed SC for a month or two before taking her off the road for this wee project.

Can get most of the bits I need readily enough but if anyone knows the whereabouts of a realistically priced rear muffler here in the UK to suit this conversion there's a drink in it for you.

As a consequence the engine out of the SC will be up for sale in the fullness of time. Any interested parties are welcome to make contact, it's a 204bhp high compression engine which goes really well. Will sell it ready to fit (i.e. complete with ancilliaries). PM me with your phone number if interested and we can talk, whilst it's in the car it can be tested no problem.

P.S. Thanks to Mr Perkles and my neighbour James for helping to lift it out of the car. Can't wait to see Mrs T's face light up when she comes back from her holiday and discovers it!

Tripe I'm stunned - I originally had you marked as a "standard car man" but a few subtle little "upgrades" that I recently spotted on your Speedster hinted at a hot rodder waiting to be let loose .....

I thought that the 3.0 lump in the back of your car felt really sweet but this should really make the car move! :signs118:

Good man!

Make sure you take a load of photos and document the whole process - one day it might come in handy for someone else ;)

cool mate looks like you got all the bits you need.

I know Tim has a M&K kit for 993HE's that he might sell...?

Cant wait to hear more about the mission, good luck mate.

Nice one Tripe

I can imagine Mrs T joy when she beholds this enigmatic lump :D

This definately needs to be a thread on IB covering the progress of what I'm sure will a brilliant project for the car , now joining an exclusive club!

Thanks Derek, that's a useful option, might just take you up on that. I have had Turbo Thomas in Nottingham recommended to me as possible fabricators, anyone know anyone else any good? - I don't want anything too loud and boomy, I need it to pass noise limits for track days and not have the kids' ears bleeding on long journeys.

Have also been looking at the SSIs on the Patrick Motorsport website, they look identical to the normal SSIs but with different flanges, adapted to fit the 993 engine. Anyone got any experience of those? ta.

The SSIs are ultimately too small for a 3.6. But if your expectation is only say 250hp (rather than Ace's 325hp) then they are easy, great quality, good heat and open up a whole world of mufflers.

Why not do the stock muffler route and just move the oil tank?

Chap on PP did that but cant find the thread right now - I thought it was a neat solution.

Of course welcome to try/copy both the M&K or magnaflow should you want to.

I'm going to try and fab my own backbox if I can't sort the noise issues with the current one. If it isn't too much of a PITA i'll do another ;)

Well it took me a while, but now the original engine has benn sold. This winter I will mostly be installing my 3.6, big brake conversion & suspension upgrade :)

Good work mate - let the fun begin!

If you havent started already might I suggest you do the brakes and engine swap separately. They are separate systems each requiring some slightly contradictory bedding in procedures(harsh for the brakes and steady for the recently swapped engine) so I say get the engine nailed then do the brakes.

My first drives after doing each of these jobs was pretty scary listening for noises etc so cant imagine what dealing with them both at the same time is much fun.

No Nige, bacon butties were the order of the day

Jev, point taken about keeping the jobs seperate. For the necessary clearance with the 930 callipers I do however need to cut off the 'ears' from the rear trailing arms (which the backplates bolt on to). I'll probably do this with the engine out as there's oodles of access. Then put the SC brakes back on for the time being.

Cool - do yaself a favor and change the banana arm bushes while the engine is out - ny on impossible to get to otherwise.

Exciting!

Ok, this is the list of jobs I have in mind:

Fit 930 brakes

Remove oil lines to get the thermostat in a vice to crack the nut for one oil pipe

Convert o/s rear reverse light to fog light

Refurb pedal box

Change gearshift bushings

Work through the suspension & change bushes/dampers as required

Get nines on the back & 951 7s on the front/check clearances etc

Fit 3.6...

Any more 'while you're in there' type ideas? I want nothing hard core, at the end of the say the old girl will be used for taking the family on day trips to the seaside as well as long motoring trips and the odd track day or three.

964/993 throttle cable

RMS on the 3.6

Input shaft seal on the Gbox

Drive shafts(made a huge diff to mine recently)

LSD

We have the late type SC cooler, i.e not a trombone.

I'm mindful of this, and am on the lookout for a late 3.2 cooler. Another option would be a second cooler in the valance or shoe horn a 964/993 cooler with fan under the wing.

Not too concerned if I don't crack that problem straight away though, I think I'll be ok under normal driving conditions with the existing set up.

Jev, I have a new RMS to fit, any one got the special tool for pushing it in?

Previous owner fitted new driveshafts so less than 5K miles on those. Will Swepco the gearbox so can change seals easily enough whilst it's being done.

Fluffy dice, yes for sure.
