  1. Hi All, Last update (hopefully) I stripped down the strut again and this new banging seems to be from a schoolboy error of mine when putting the insert in, it wasn't seated properly and was on top of the roll pin. With the new inserts and this problem fixed I am a very happy man again Thanks to you all for the advice. I do hope one day I'll be able to help out too.
  2. Bit of an update, done the inserts and although the ride is now better and the banging isn't as bad it is more often, probably due to the shocks being stiffer. However while I had them apart I took out the top mounts which, after a little research, seem to be Weltmeister camber plates which have a bearing in them which could be the problem. Has anyone had any experience of these? can the bearings be replaced? Cheers
  3. Thank you all for your swift replies. I've started the wheels (no pun intended) in motion to find a set of 16's to try. I am quite happy with the ride quality, I've been in a lot worse, and i do love the wheels so it would be a shame to ditch them, but i love the originals as well so it may have to be on my list of to do's (which is getting longer and longer!!) I'll get back with the results. By the way Chris_911, love the photos. I'm a bit of a amateur myself but only managed one half decent porsche shot so far but hey I'll keep trying - http://www.flickr.com/photos/32664223@N02/3937910165/ Thanks
  4. First of all hi to al you guys. I've just bought into the world of porsche fun and went straight for the power. I bought myself a white '89 930 that is in reasonable nick, needs some bodywork for rust, has had an engine rebuild less than 30k ago at JZM including a few changes from what I can tell from the file of receipts that came with it, and is on the ground on 18" RH wheels. I have been looking for quite some time and wanted a bit of a project and found this 330 miles from where I live, but hey you gotta travel for the things you love. I didn't quite buy it blind, I had my eyes wide open after a well known inspector did a full report for me...... but, an here comes the question, the n/s front suspension sounds like it is bottoming out when ever I hit even a slightly moderate hole (really small if I'm honest) which there are many of after the harsh winter we have had. The inspection, and my test drive, brought this up and the inspection suggests that it may be a knackered damper, which I am happy to accept but since I am knew to this game I thought I would ask the guys (and gals) that have lived and breathed these wonderful machines for years. So basically is there anything else that could cause this or should I be thinking of going straight for the purchase of new inserts? For info they are bilstein struts and I think the rears were done in '99. Thanks in anticipation One very happy man.
