Whilst my engine and gearbox will be out in the coming weeks I have arranged some time to clean and prep before its refitted. I’m not getting anal about it but will bead blast the fan etc and powder coat - as I know a man who can. ;)

I’ve read Tim’s post where the engine has been cleaned with hot water jet wash and additive cleaner which seems to have done the job well enough is it really that straight forward? Any pitfalls using a jet wash? Other Ideas?

Cheers

I blew some of the crap out of my engine bay last week with the jetwash (cold), avoided the dizzy cap as much as I could. She fired up first time afterwards. Truckwash agitated with a 2" paintbrush and an in-line pickup into some more truckwash works for me. Wants diluting however you use it as it is very aggressive and will milk out your ally bits if not careful. If your guys have a steam cleaner with a detergent pickup, then that is your best bet. Easy clean it up with steam when it's out of the car. Pics of mine:

Be careful with steam cleaner as they can be a bit brutal and will rip the tape off of your cables. I have used a cleaner from Comma brush it on and let it soak a bit like Gunk but it does not smell as bad. Then it will wash off with a pressure washer or even a hose pipe.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I’m Pi##ed off at the mo as missed our Dyno day, and will miss Husborne Crawley Auto jumble and Snetterton and just as important more faces to names etc. Mine goes to RPM at the end of this month and will be there for a few weeks as they are really busy. Sure it will be worth waiting for though.

Cheers

Mate, if you come to Husborne or Snett in the company car no-one's gonna slap you - you're a big guy lol. I went to Husborne in the Cruiser in April, they still let me in :D

Come to Snett for the craic if you can make it.
