  1. Hi Guys. Thanks for all the reply’s. I didn’t have the front fogs on so now working OK but leaves me with a few problems. If I pull the switch it comes off in my hand. If it doesn’t come off and the fog lights come on, the switch doesn’t light up so no warning light. I don’t know how to remove the switch to replace it with a new one. cheers all
  2. Pull the switch and it comes off in my hand. Swap the knob with front fog lights and it just has enough grip to stay in and turn the switch on but no lights, checked fuses in the frunk and all OK. Bentley manual doesn’t even mention rear fogs and nothing in wiring diagrams. Any tips or copy of wiring diagram please?
  3. Well I finally found what was causing my squeaky, stiff gear changes, and the jumping out of 2nd and 4th. I removed the deformed/split boot from the rear of the gear shift and together with the new friction ring and ball joint at the front, the gear changes are now lovely. Night and day! Now just got to order a new boot.
  4. Hi Chris My "rubber ring" is on the actual gear lever, its a thick rubber ring about as thick as my little finger, not just an O ring. Have a look at this picture - it is marked with the red arrow, the picture makes it look thinner than mine.
  5. Thanks Angus. Another question for you... The gear lever has a thick rubber band around the base, (like an exhaust mount). This is shown in the Bentley manual diagram but not the photo and its not in the Porsche parts catalogue. Is this a later modification? It doesn't look in bad condition, but I am not sure wether to refit as I can't really see what it does.
  6. I've just removed my front linkage to give it a bit of a service. I am going to fit a new ball joint and bushing with new O rings. Everything else seems OK it was just a bit squeaky and tight. Is there a particular type of grease I should use when reassembling, especially for the shift lever mount? Cheers.
  7. He didn’t replace same side, 2nd time was the near side. He’s now replaced OS and NS so both are now new and working OK.
  8. Just to clarify, the engine was rebuilt with the original tensioners. Maybe they should have been replaced as part of the rebuild but they seemed OK and they are not cheap. It may be a combination of stronger valve springs/new chain/guides/sprockets and better oil pressure that gave the old ones too much work to do.
  9. O/S tensioner failed 150 miles after full rebuild. N/S failed after another 150 miles. He says it was wear and tear. I wonder if maybe the higher oil pressure tipped them over the edge? Anyway it seems OK for now so I’ll put another 500 miles on it over the next couple of weeks and see what happens. Im not going to name and shame for now as I am not unhappy with his work. He is a well respected air cooled specialist, recommended by many PCGB and TIPEC members including my local PCGB assistant RO and has been working on 3 of my Porsche’s over the last 5 years.
  10. He said it wouldn’t happen on the other side!
  11. Judging by the responses he’s done something wrong resulting in failed tensioners. Any helpful advice on what this might be? Nothing to do with tensioners being 32 years old? cheers
  12. 150 miles after a full rebuild (1986/76k miles) I get a noise. My Indy takes it back and replaces o/s chain tensioner. Another 150 miles and the n/s one is noisey. Is this an unlucky coincidence or is something causing this?
  13. Only just seen this thread. Am I too late?
  14. Before changing to swepco, the gearbox worked smoothly in all gears but was noisey. After the change, it became very hard to engage 1st and 2nd, especially when cold. But it was quieter.
  15. Ive just had my G50 rebuilt and was told that the synchro rings needed replacing because the swepco oil I put in it had caused them to wear. The viscosity stops them spinning freely causing hard gear changes when cold, and leads to premature wear. Before the change to swepco oil, the gearbox was fine but noisy due to worn bearings. Had I kept the original oil, I would have still needed the rebuild, but the job would have been considerably cheaper if the synchro rings didn't need replacing.
  16. Got mine today, just need to fit my mesh and paint them ready for when I get my car back from it’s engine and gearbox rebuild. £53 the pair with carriage. ABS injection moulded.
  17. My probable choice of engine rebuilder normally only fits original parts, he is happy to fit 964 cams but it will be down to me to make the final decision on upgrades. I think the only upgrades I am likely to do that requires the engine out will be camshafts so I am trying to understand a bit more about it before we get started. It seems the more I learn, the more confused I get! Other stuff like air filter, maf sensor and remap can always be done later with the engine in.
  18. Hi Richard Given that I dont want to sacrifice too much sub 3k rpm driveability, what setup would you suggest? Will 964's be too tame? Who is a good UK supplier I can talk to about the cams and other bits I might need? Cheers Ian
  19. Just received an email from Steve Wong who reckons on 6-10 HP increase from replacement camshafts depending on which profile I choose. It doesnt sound like a great return on investment compared to air filter replacement or remap for example. I am guessing the 964 's are a "safe" choice and therefore at the lower end of that estimate?
  20. As I am getting a top end rebuild on my 3.2 this winter, inevitably you start to think about camshafts. I dont need race track performance but who wouldn't want a few extra HP as long as it doesnt have a down side? So I am thinking of 964's or webcam 21/20's as I believe these are a straight swap without needing any additional machining, new pistons or rods etc. I would be interested to know of anyone who has done this on an otherwise stock 3.2 for comments. I have also read that standard 3.2 camshafts can be re-ground to a 964 profile, is there anyone in the UK that offers this service? Cheers Wonko
  21. I will use My Hermes, if you PM me your address and postcode I will get a quote for postage. cheers
  22. Sorry posted this before reading the rules. How does £20 sound?
  23. Cosmetically OK but missing one of the fixing studs as shown in photo. Make me an offer. collection from bournemouth preferred but will post to UK.
