Does anyone know the correct mounting position for the passenger door mirror? or is it just a case of sitting in the drivers seat and have a helper moving it until its useable. the previous owner just fitted it on as a mirror image of the drivers door and without the reinforcement plate so is worse than useless.

Thank you eebee just the info I needed, I'll post a picture when I've done.

I'm going slightly retro on my 81' sc Targa part of which involves the targa bar refinishing . The black paint has come off easily with Starchem paint stripper, I'm now using " scotchbrite " type of abrasive to achieve the brushed stainless effect. My question is did Porsche seal the stainless top with lacquer or similar, or was it left polished which would show any marks easily ? Anyone with an original bright Targa please!

No need to scrape the inside , it's brass from top to bottom, inside and outside ! it should all prepare very well for powder coating. I'll let you know about the door handles, I read somewhere that they could be magnesium but I doubt it.

The handles appear to be anodised from new, so I guess they can be re-anodised ?. My thoughts on the door frames ( they are black ) is that as its a targa then brass would be more suitable as it's only half a frame ?

I've found a place in Halifax that will do the black anodising , also found that the window frame parts are made of brass not aluminium , consequently these parts will need to be powder coated along with a few other bits.

Has anyone had their door handles re blacked and also the window frames ( targa ) ? I have looked around locally , but can't find anyone in the Humberside area .

Hi guli , I used a large drift that I made from steel to fit in the splined hole , then used a very heavy hammer ( about 14 lbs ) this ensured that I didn't have to use many strokes to knock out the hub complete with one half of the inner bearing race . After removing the bearing retaining plate I then used the propane torch to warm the aluminium after which the bearing came out withe very little effort. Good luck.

thanks for the useful info, the parts are now on order through porsche Sheffield , a good saving on Elephant racing without the delivery charge. The car I am rebuilding is a 1981/2 Targa so I am staying with compliant suspension bushes.

more bits to bolt back on , I need to order the rubber bushes for the spring plates probably going for Elephant racing parts they seem to be the default standard.

Just completed rear wheel bearing and hand brake overhaul, heated the aluminium casting with propane torch and had the SKF bearing in the freezer over night , using this method the bearing just dropped in without any pressing required. On the r/h side I refitted the hub before attaching the hand brake shoes this was a bit time consuming on l/h side fitted the hand brake bits then pressed in the hub, much easier.

After many years of being in bits , my sc targa is now back from the painters. My question about the brass oil cooler, should it be painted or just left brass coloured ? my inclination is to spray it black with a rattle can but I would like to know what it would have been from new , thanks
